Epilepsy and infertility
I am no means an expert, however I don't think epilepsy would cause infertility. Epilepsy is linked to the brain and there could be many reasons physically why you aren't getting pregnant. Maybe the medication for epilepsy might impact your cycle/sperm but that is a guess. Have you been for tests? Referred to a fertility clinic? I could be completely wrong. My knowledge of epilepsy is fairly limited. X
My husband has focal onset epilepsy and takes sodium valproate (1000mg/day). We can't be sure just how much this affects his (in)fertility (though it def doesn't help) as there are other, more significant causes for his extremely low sperm count. One thing that could help would be talking to your consultant (neurology/epilepsy) about changing medication, as they have different impacts on fertility.
While epilepsy can impact your fertility, it doesn't necessarily impact your chances of success - we had a few strugglers during IVF/ICSI process, but managed to get pregnant in our first cycle.
Yes I spoke to the epilepsy sociaty and they recommended me to speak to a epilepsy specialist about possibly changing my medication .
I havnt had an epileptic seizure in over 5 years but I am on a high dose of tegratol
800 mg twice a day .
I have spoken to a urologist who said it's your medication which is the cause of your low sperm count.
