Hi everyone, I just had a follow up call from our consultant after a failed cycle. It was our first attempt. We got 3 eggs but only one survived to transfer. She advised that as I'm only 36 we should try one more round with my own eggs and if that doesn't work then the next step would be donor eggs, which I'm not ready for at the moment. I'm hoping for some encouragement and success stories. Has anyone with low AMH levels (1.3) been successful at this age with their own eggs? Also has anyone found that dramatically changing their diet helped in a similar situation to me. I'm on another site and they advised to cut out dairy, caffeine, gluten, sugar, reduced carbs and limit exposure to plastic. I'm all for making changes to get the best possible outcome and I do need to lose weight but has anyone found that making all or some of those changes worked for them? I know I may have to give up on my dream if using my own eggs at some stage but right now I'd appreciate any tips that worked out well for others! Thanks to everyone on this site for the support and best of luck to everyone!
Low AMH and diet. : Hi everyone, I... - Fertility Network UK
Low AMH and diet.
I am 33 and have the same issue. I’m 3 rounds in now. Going to do a 4th with my own eggs! I would recommend buying it starts with the egg book and also have a look at DHEA and Coq10 supplements xxx
Hi lovely, I don't have low AMH but I have had 3 egg collections since starting IVF (at 36). Our first cycle we got 4 blastocysts with no changes from normal life (except lowering alcohol intake). The 2nd cycle I had been to see a nutritionist and completely changed my diet / lifestyle / exercise routine / reduced chemicals etc and we only got 2 blastocysts. Our last cycle, I was still eating healthily and avoiding chemicals etc, but this time I and my OH took a high dose of Ubiquinol (400mg per day) and we had our best cycle yet of 8 frozen blastocysts. So I guess my point is that being healthy is definitely a good plan in terms of getting your body in the best place, but actually I think it's the drug protocol and the preparation of your eggs / sperm before collection that really helps.
Not sure if this helps at all but thought I would share! BTW we've still not had our BFP but hoping our next transfer will be the one (we've also had an ERA test done so changed our transfer time too). Best of luck xx
That's great news Millbanks! I'm going to start the Ubiquinol ASAP! Encouraging to hear that it made so much of a difference and a number of people have recommended it. Best of luck for the next transfer! Sending positive vibes your way! ❤
Hi, I already had one cycle of IVH 3 years ago by the NHS which was negative results.
My recent result is AMH level to 1.6, and the doctor recommended me DHEA 75 mg and Coq10 400 mg supplements for at least 3 months to bust the quality I supposed.... after some thoughts and the fact that I did not like the doctor, I changed clinics
This time I've decided to go to natural modified IVF that is supposed to help women on low reserve, it is also cheaper. It is supposed to focus on the quality rather than the quantity. Maybe something you can have a look too.
Dont loose hope on your own eggs!
Hi KemagzerI am in a similar situation to you and also 36. When I first joined this site last year I was feeling very despondent, with low AMH and very low AFC (only 2). My first post a few lovely ladies responded with some positive stories involving their low AMH and their journeys. It really picked me up and gave me some motivation to keep going. Unfortunately our first round was not successful, we are going private now with a 3 cycle package, hoping to bank a few embryos and then have a FET. If it doesn't work after this package I think I may look at moving to a clinic that specialises in low AMH and then if they can't help me it will be time to accept that donor eggs may be our only option.
Obviously it is your journey (and money!) and I understand how expensive this process is, but i would not be ready to give up on your own eggs. Did they say in the follow-up whether they think they can do anything different for your next round?
Once I got my low AMH/AFC diagnosis I started seeing a naturopath and started on loads of supplements and started eating better (no caffeine, no alcohol etc). I was quite intense with it all! Then the transfer failed and i decided for my next round I was going to be a bit more chilled. I will still take my supplements and avoid booze and caffeine but if I want a treat then I will (every day lately haha). This process is so full on that sometimes we can become a bit obsessive and I am not convinced that diet and obsessing will change our results and sometimes it is just rotten luck.
Here are some of the supplements I am on (a good quality prenatal with Folate, ubiquinol/coQ10, fish oil, minerals, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin C)
Sending you lots of luck and strength
xx
Jane8412 thanks so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and detailed reply! My consultant was eager to get me signed up again and I had to push to get her to suggest and other options.
They are going to repeat bloods and see if there is anything else I could be taking so we'll see wjat theu come back with.
With regard to diet I think I'm just going to focus on eating health, exercising and trying to lose a few pounds and see how we get on. As you said it's stressful enough without obsessing that I'm doing everything perfectly! We have to live too!
I'm going to start to coQ10 ASAP as recommended by you lovely ladies!
Best of luck with your 3 cycle package (sounds like a good plan) and hopefully we'll be reading your happy story soon! Xx
Thank you Sounds like a good plan with repeating bloods. Hopefully they can suggest some things. Good plan on the diet. It is hard enough going through this process without obsessing over diet and I honestly believe it is going to work or not and depriving yourself is not going to change that. If you ever want to chat with someone in a similar situation feel free to send me a private message. I know how hard this journey can be! It can be so hard to read other ladies getting loads of eggs when those of us with low AMH are desperate to get one good blastocyst. But if we focus on quality over quantity hopefully we will all get there eventually xx
I underwent embryo transfer on 4th jan this month and today after 4 days I started to bleed. Early morning today around 6am ,the blood looked like brown blood but gradually it turned out to be red like we have our periods. We got scared. Suddenly we rushed to the hospital and doctor prescribed more 3 days progesterone injections.
Suddenly on 5th day after embryo transfer i had heavy gush of red blood bleeding .I think my body didn't accept the embryo and I had abortion. Today morning after i got up to pass pee , I saw heavy gush of deep maroon blood with big clots passed. I am on pads for 4 days now. and i am still bleeding. Not sure when bleeding will stop. Bleeding is red like period flow. Not sure what to check next time for better uterus receptivity. I had uterus clean polyp operation too but still the embryo left us all. We checked with the doctor but doctor said they have never seen any kind of patients like this who bleed on 4th day after embryo transfer and lost it.
From my experience with low AMH, i would say getting 3 eggs and achieving a transfer on your first attempt is good outcome. I would say don't give up just yet. Did the embryo that was transferred make it to Day 3 or Day 5? Do you know what happened to the other 2 eggs, where they immature, failed to fertilise, fail to progress to day 3 or 5? You could look at getting advise from a fertility nutritionist or Zeta West has some good books on nutrition. My consultant and acupuncturist advised me to take DHEA, Co-enzyme Q10, vitamin D spray, i also took Zita West vital DHA alongside extra B12 and my pregnacare conception multivitamin. I also tried both short and long protocol and got better follicle and egg numbers with the long protocol or maybe it was as result of all the tablets..... who knows. Generally it is the short protocol that is advised for women with low AMH. I know how difficult it is dealing with low AMH, be kind to yourself and look after each other. Xx
Thanks Jengi, I might need to change my consultant to someone who is more supportive and willing to offer suggestions/improvements to our cycle. I've done some research on DHEA after it was mentioned here and will ask about that. She did mention checking my estrogen and testosterone and maybe taking either or for 3 months before we start again, but she had to be pressed to make these suggestions.
My eggs - the first one failed to fertilise, the second progressed slowly and they waited until day 6 to see if it would catch up but unfortunately it didn't and our last egg fertilised and progressed to day 5 transfer. Which as you said is a good outcome with low AMH so hopefully we can do it again and hopefully get better results if I utilise the advice everyone has so kindly given! Wishing you all the best with your journey! Thanks again for the advice! Xx
It’s important you feel supported by your consultant. Unfortunately, it is a numbers game but getting at least one 5 day blastocyst is really good news. I didn’t even get to transfer on my first cycle. I had two follicles, only one egg was retrieved but failed to fertilise because it had a thickened zona pellucida which can be a sign of poor quality. My next 3 cycles were worse, my follicles didn’t respond & we cancelled the cycles. The next one I had 4 follicles, 3 eggs retrieved, the only mature egg failed to fertilise. Out of the two immature eggs, one matured over night, fertilised and got to day 3. It was poorly graded with a lot of fragmentation. It didn’t stick. I hope me sharing my story gives you some hope that for someone with low AMH you are in a much better starting place. My only advice is be realistic, listen to the experts (even if it’s not what you want to hear) and agree now the number of attempts with your own eggs you are going to do before moving on to your next option. Good luck Xx
Hey hun- how you getting on, I also have low amh, 3 failed iui and 1 failed ivf
I have to change clinic I think now, what did you decide and where are you at in ur journey atm x
