42 and on 3rd IVF cycle

Hopefulbutscared profile image

Hello! I am 42 and have low AMH. I am on my third back to back cycle. First was this summer and ended up in a miscarriage at 7 weeks, the second was a chemical pregnancy and very much hoping for success this time around. However, my ovaries don’t seem to be responding as well as they did the last couple of times. I have only 5 very small follicles (day 5 of stim phase). My medication has been upped, so I suppose we’ll see what happens at the next scan. Has anyone had a slow start and gone on to succeed?

Hello,

I’m 43, just completed my 6th cycle 😲

I have a 6 year old born in 2014, ivf was a success but since then trying to have sibling has been such a challenge.

I have ok AMH for my age but my ovaries act like my age and not my AMH according to my clinic!

All I can say is every cycle is different. For me, I have found that lower stims work just as well as high stims (if not better).

I’m currently on my 2ww - praying for a miracle 🙏

Good luck with your cycle, it only takes 1 🌟

I was 45 when I got my BFP. I had 2 IVF cycles. Neither produced high numbers of follicles. I had 4 eggs and 5 eggs I think. I am now mummy to a beautiful boy. Like they say it does only take 1! None of mine ever made it to freezing. Success. You've got this

Did any of you have pgs testing? I am 42 and just finished our 2nd cycle. Day 5 of embryo culture today. We’ve had 4 recurrent miscarriages and one failed fresh transfer from the 1st cycle. I am scared of another miscarriage but also scared the pgs will all come back abnormal. I was thinking of doing just transfers but it would risk potentially 5 miscarriages as we have 5 embryos. Not sure what to do. We’ve even talked of single or double fresh transfer probably today or tomorrow and pgs test the remaining 3 or 4 embryos.

Any advice or guidance appreciated xx

It seems like you don't have s problem getting pregnant, just that maybe those embryos weren't euploid.

I was in the same situation. 42 yrs old,4 cycles ,3 miscarriages and one BFN and now 23 wks pregnant with baby girl who is passing all tests with flying colours.

We did pgs on 7 embryos over 2 cycles...all aneuploid. So we didn't test further and did transfers but it did lead to miscarriages.

At this point I would do PGS again to save heartache where possible.

BUT: I would definately do a double fresh transfer of untested embryos while you are at a prime spot for transfer. I know I basically wasted a free transfer while eggs were frozen and tested. And I didnt want to waste anymore time on single transfers.

My lucky embryo was my last 14th or 15th embryo.

Good luck!

Hi Violet180

Huge congrats on your pregnancy, the struggle is worth it 😊.

Thanks so much for the reply. I am so torn on what to do. They clinic called and were booked for a fresh transfer this afternoon, they’ve agreed to do a double transfer if we want but we can let them know later. We have:-

1x5AA (with small amount of exclusions). 1x5AB which so the embryologists chosen embryo if we only fresh transfer one.

1x 5CC (which they refuse to biopsy so that will just be frozen).

1x 5BB (from the first cycle which is bioposed and frozen).

1x slow early blasto which he is waiting to see grade but said so far it is a 1B.

So our decision is probably to do at least 1 fresh but probably 2. So transfer today the 5AA and the 5BA.

Then we have 3 left over embryos to PGS or just freeze.

Can I ask with your baby girl now, was she from PGS testing or from untested transfers (single or double)?

Thanks for much. Need to get ready for the clinic 😩. So nervous and undecided xxx

Don't be nervous. You are doing all you can do. You got this.

My girl is from untested double transfer. We never got any normal tested embryos.

She was obviously the worst grade too as was transferred last. I dont put too much stock on grading.

Thanks so much for the advice Violet. That’s so exciting. We’ve decided to go for a double fresh transfers at 3pm today. Keep everything crossed for us :)

Hi I had a slow start. There was talk of cancelling. They said I was a poor responser. They upped the drugs from 309 to 450 and then I ended up getting 3 eggs. Not many I know but it was ok considering my age and AMH 5.3. They said my AMH was good for my age but that my ovaries are acting my age too xx

Hello, I am 43 and have done 5 cycles so far, one MMC and one chemical and 3 fails. I had EXACTLY the same experience on day 7 of stims... read these posts:

Hi there. They got three eggs out, hoping they are mature/fertilize and we get a miracle. Not getting my hopes up too high though, this has been a wonky cycle from the start. Thanks for the support!
