Sperm freezing for ICSI

Hi

First time posting... my husband and I have been TTC for 10 years! We thought it was my PCOS causing the problems and just carried on trying , however as we creep nearer to 40 decided to get checked out.

Turns out that the glandular fever he had as a teenager has vastly reduced his sperm count.

Due to delays from our clinic neglecting to contact us after tests and then Covid, we are 18 months+ Into our journey and due to start my first cycle of ICSI at the end of this month.

He is having his sperm frozen on Thursday. They told him on the phone to abstain for 2-7 days. Does this mean that in the 2-7 day window he should do his thing or not?? Obviously being a man he was too embarrassed to ask 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

We are in the same situation as you and our doctor suggested that he ejaculate the day before - so like 24 hrs before he had to do it for egg collection. Fresh sperm is better. We ended up with 8 frosties this time.

It means that the last time to have intercourse before going to the clinic needs to be between 2-7 days. I’d suggest to abstain for no more than 3 days before going to the lab

Our clinic it was more like 1-3 days before he should ejaculate before the freeze day... even 3 Days they said was the most. Ideally 2 days but every clinic is different. They want the healthiest sperm not the old sperm. Good luck!

Good luck for your first cycle. We are going through our first ICSI cycle too. We had our egg and fresh sperm collection on weds and my husband was told the last time he “could” was the Sunday before, so to abstain from the Monday. 3-4 days should be enough. Hope that helps x
