Panicing... I’ve just accidentally taken an inbuprofen

Hi guys

I am having a small breakdown over here because I’ve accidentally just taken an ibuprofen (only one) and I had my egg transfer on Saturday.

Dr google tells me I’ve increased my risk of miscarriage significantly now. We aren’t sure if our cycle has worked yet but now I’m scared that it won’t, and if it does I might have increased the risk.

I can’t get it out obviously. So it’s in now, and it was pure accident but I’m panicking.

As if the two week wait wasn’t stressful enough. Would even one ibuprofen put me at risk of either not conceiving or miscarrying?

Can anyone put my mind at rest or am I right to worry?

Try not to panic. The NHS says “If you have taken ibuprofen occasionally before you were 30 weeks pregnant, it's unlikely to have affected your unborn baby.” nhs.uk/common-health-questi...

Thanks for the reassurance. It means a lot.

I’ve drank a pint and a half of water as I felt like maybe it would flush it out quicker or dilute any possible impacts.

I took a lot of medications I shouldn’t have in very early pregnancy in what would’ve been the TWW (We had no idea I was pregnant as I fell naturally and I have endometriosis and assumed I was having a flare up) I was distraught and convinced I’d done something to hurt the baby, my GP reassured me and told me the baby didn’t even have a blood supply that could mix with mine when I took the drugs so I wouldn’t have done any damage, baby should be fine, you know not to do it again x

Try not to worry. Taking one dose as a one off isn't enough to do damage. I freaked out on my last pregnancy for taking it twice ( so, 4 tablets) as I had crippling migraines and the midwife said it was fine, just to stick to paracetamol going forward.

Dr Google can be helpful but at other times completely freak us out. If in doubt for anything call your midwife / consultant / clinic

Hello lovely, i think as its so early in the 'implantation window' the ibuprofren will have had minimal effect on the embryos development at this such early stage. If hasn't yet implanted im 99 per cent sure you will be fine if it has i still think it will be fine. Of all the millions of women that may have unknowingly popped an Ibuprofren that their pregnancy continued. Remember a risk is just that - a risk! not a definate! Stay positive. When do you test? xx
