I enjoy reading all your stories - and have my fingers crossed for you all.
I had my retrieval yesterday - I had 30 eggs. I have just had the call to say that 18 were mature, four have fertilised normally with one slightly behind. The rest (13) will be kept overnight to see if they fertilise.
Anyone else had eggs just suddenly fertilise on the second night or are they pretty much not going to happen?
I guess 4 is good right? I just worry about the statistics of how many of those will make it to blastocyst stage?
Thanks

I also had egg collection yesterday! How are you feeling?
We had 7 collected and 6 fertilise. Next update will be on Monday and then hoping for a Day 5 transfer on Wednesday. The information our clinic sent through said that most eggs that fertilise should get to Day 3 and they expect (for women age 35 or under) that 40-60% of embryos that are still growing on Day 3 will get to Day 5. (I’m 34.) This was 30-50% for age 35-37 and follows a similar pattern as you go through the various age bands.
Hopefully this means we are both on track for at least one good one on Day 5!
Thank you for replying Mrs Peacock Ah yes, I'm 42 - so my odds are on the lower end but of those 5 that fertilised then hopefully at least one will keep growing then to day 5. I'm yet to receive the call today to tell me if any of the 13 that hadn't fertilised may have done overnight - but have you ever heard of eggs fertilising on the second night? I'm keeping my hopes up for more!
oh yeah - I'm feeling good - for having 30 eggs removed I think my recovery is going pretty well - I just feel like I've got some mild period pains. Hopefully it stays like that as the clinic were concerned about OHSS and I know that may start in a day or two.
I've heard anecdotally on forums like this about eggs fertilising later but your clinic is probably the best to ask, though the fact that they've kept them overnight to monitor suggests that this is something that they are familiar with happening so that's positive.
Good to hear you're feeling okay. I have quite bad cramping (though I think that may also be from the progesterone pessaries) and that's with only 7 collected so you are doing very well after 30!
Good luck for the next phone call. It's so surreal to think the embryos are all growing away in a little dish somewhere - the magic of science!
Thank you! Gives me a little hope I hope yours keep growing well. Yeah it totally feels weird - feels more real than when I was just injecting myself - like they're actually possible lil human beings. Yikes I don't want to get too ahead of myself
I know! And now we can say embryos instead of eggs! We've just been celebrating every little hurdle like this that we pass over. I think all you can do is take it one stage at a time and look for the positives to keep yourself sane
I had read so much online about quantity and quality leading up to our cycle (as we knew because I have an AFC on the low end of normal for my age that we weren't expecting lots of eggs) and was worried about getting a low number because of attrition rates but when you actually look at real people's outcomes, it just goes to show that it really does just take one good one at the end of it all - despite the number that are collected or fertilised. Just keeping positive that we will have the one left on Day 5 that will be the one!
Just had the day 2 report - no more of the 13 fertilised but the four that did fertilise are still going strong on day 2 - so here's hoping for day 3 tomorrow!
