wondering if anyone has experienced what I have experienced the last few weeks. I went for my 7 week scan at my clinic after an ICSI/IMSI IVF cycle on the 3rd October. I was told there was only an empty sac and I had something similar to a blighted ovum. I have now been waiting to miscarry naturally but it hasn’t happened. So this week I booked a scan with the EPU at my hospital and they have said there was an embryo measuring 7.88mm (6.5 weeks). I found this all so strange that one minute there was no embryo and now what would be 9.5 weeks there is an embryo but no heartbeat. Has anyone experienced this before? I am so confused. The doctors just said sometimes this happens. I am going to the hospital for medical management today but I thought I would write on this group to see if this is quite common. X

Empty sac at 7 week scan but embryo appeared at scan 3 weeks later with no heartbeat
Hey Tulips, I am so so sorry for you. This is a horrible time where one moment you feel it's all over and the next you suddenly get your hopes up again. I had something similar a month before you. I had FET on 3rd Sept but had a bleed around week 6 for a few hours. At the scan a few days later they did see a sac, yolk and fetal node but the sac was misshaped. We went back for another scan a week later and it had grown, but not enough. So yours could have still grown a little, due to our hormones/blood supply etc. By week 8 they couldn't see the node anymore but that could have been because of the angle of my uterus (its tipped) or because my body had reabsorbed it. In those nearly 3 weeks my body didn't recognise the miscarriage and I've heard of women going on for several more weeks before the body acknowledges the missed miscarriage/blighted ovum. It's terribly upsetting when you think the doctors may have it wrong. It took me 3 scans and 3 weeks to accept.
Thinking of you and sending you hugs xxx
