Early scan with only a sac no embryo

Hello

I am in my 4th pregnancy and attending the recurrent miscarriage clinic. We went for a 6.5 week scan last week and it did not look good- only a small sac and no embryo visible. Yesterday we had a follow up and there was some growth but still no visible embryo, however they have said that they need to wait 2 more weeks and scan me again before they can call it a miscarriage. It feels like deja vu at the moment to previous pregnancies. Has anyone else experienced this? The sonographers were not hopeful that this pregnancy would progress and last week the consultant told us that we looked like we were experiencing a missed miscarriage again. It feels very cruel to be kept waiting for a further two weeks.

Im so sorry that you are going through this, it must be incredibly painful. You havent said if you are having fertility treatment or a natural conception but Im guessing natural. It does seem cruel to leave you in limbo but at the same time the clinic have to be absolutely sure that perhaps the dates maybe arent just right before they decide to class this as a missed miscarriage and offer you options of where to go from here. Yes it was natural, I am having heparin , steroids through the nhs recurrent miscarriage clinic and progesterone as well as intralipids through a private clinic. Thanks for your kind words

Can't they do bloods to see if your numbers are rising every 48 hours? Or to understand if you have reached the number where you should be able to see something? I have read of people who have had this and gone on to have healthy pregnancies, especially with natural when they really are not so sure of the dates. Wishing you all the best and sending big hugs. They took bloods last week but not for hcg and they took bloods this week but I’m not due back for two weeks now. I hadn’t known about them bloods or else I would have asked them to measure last week. Thanks for your words xxxx

I have been through this and had to have three scans as the sac kept growing. I have heard this is highly unusual and normally you will know next scan. I did loads of googling and there are loads of good news stories. .. are you absolutely sure on your dates? Is this a natural BFP? It seems so often a late ovulation can lead to this.

Sadly mine wasn't a happy ending but that doesn't mean yours won't be. Definitely ask for bloods - mine wouldn't do it but wish they had as would have probably known sooner.

My clinic at the time told me that only a scan at 7 weeks plus would really be definite when its a natural BFP so you still have a chance

Thanks and sorry you went through that it’s horrible. I think I am sure of my dates. It’s more that this happened first pregnancy and I miscarried and we have had two

More miscarriages since then so it just feels as though we are going the same way xxxx

I'm really sorry you are having to go through this. I had this with my first missed miscarriage I had to keep going back for scans as they needed to be absolutely sure. Mine was a miscarriage but I know for some ladies something has developed a bit later. Sending you lots of love and big hugs. Xxx

I had a scan at 6 weeks after heavy bleeding which showed an empty sac. They were prepared to do a D&C but I was getting my HCG checked and since it was still rising I chose to wait for the repeat scan (although that felt like a very long week!)

I'm now 20 weeks today!

So sorry for your loss, dear. There is no word to tell you how bad I feel about this situation. I know the feeling of going through this. I had m/c last week. I’m glad my DH was there with me. Started bleeding on mon. It was really painful (emotionally). That would have been our 1st baby. We’ve been trying for 7 yrs. Finally got pregnant (through IVF) but I lost it. It hurts me so much. But I’m not losing any hope. Hopefully next time it will be a successful one. I want to TTC right away… But I don’t know when my AF will come. I know you need also to grieve. It's normal that in 95% women's pregnancy a miscarriage is normal but if it continues one after another, then you both(H&W) better go for a thorough checkup & as present medication has reached in high for getting pregnant... Don't worry Dear.. You definitely going to get a lovely baby soon... With love
