Percentage of eggs collected that are mature

How many out of the eggs you had collected were mature and OK to use? We're gearing up for cycle 2, and on the first cycle I feel like the clinic got some things not quite right with my meds - out of 12 eggs collected, there were 8 that were mature and two-thirds seems a bit low to me. Interested in other people's experiences - does two-thirds seem low or about right? And for those who've done multiple cycles, anything that's helped improve the percentage of mature eggs? Many thanks all xx

Yes, I had this problem with two of my collections. Both of the times only half were mature. I was using the trigger shot ovritrelle 250. I did some research on it and found out that ovritrelle 250 wasn’t strong enough that I would need a least two of these trigger shots to improve the about of mature eggs I got. I spoke to my consultant about this and she said that we would do the two triggers the next time. My result was much much improved out of 11 eggs 10 were mature and all fertilised.

Hope this helps XX

Really interesting, thank you xx

Round one 2 out of 3

Round two 9 out of 13

Round three 9 out of 11

Round four 9 out of 10

Round five 6 out of 8

I have a double trigger so 10,000 of Gonasi as I am old!

The one thing I would say is it can depend on how many your consultant goes for - so some ECs the consultant has gone for everything but others he hasn’t bothered trying to get the noticeably smaller ones x

Ooh, interesting - double trigger sounds like something to investigate! I'm 41 so not much younger than you xx

As the others have said, using a double trigger helps improve maturity rates and gives the eggs a bit of boost in quality at the end. Made a difference for me xx

Oh I have the same issue. For me follicles that are not reaching 20mm are not producing mature eggs. I tried many different things but nothing seemed to work for me, including double trigger shot.

But what I want to mention is even if you have less mature eggs doesn’t mean that they are poor quality. It is more related to how our body reacts to medications. Here is my history:

1st - 6 eggs 3 mature

2nd - 7 eggs 5 mature (double trigger)

3rd - 16 eggs 10 mature

4th - 11 eggs 7 mature

As you can see not a great result 😤

Interesting! But it does seem like percentage-wise it was a bit better on the cycle when you tried the double trigger? Xx

I just did the percentage 😂🤭😁 crazy me. Yes, my second cycle had the highest percentage of mature eggs, also it was the only cycle on short protocol. To be honest you can try there is no harm in it, you never know what the outcome will be.

1st - 6 eggs 3 mature- 50%

2nd - 7 eggs 5 mature (double trigger)- 71.4% mature

3rd - 16 eggs 10 mature - 62.5% mature

4th - 11 eggs 7 mature - 63.6% mature

I had 25 eggs and 20 fertilised but only 4 made it to blastocysts which was way less than the average expected. It’s so hard because ivf isn’t an exact science.

I’ve generally had a pretty good amount of mature eggs compared to follicles. I kept spreadsheets because I’m a bit geeky and anything 14mm was bigger on day of trigger yielded a mature egg for me

Yep sounds about right to me! I’ve always been told that they only expect around 70% of follicles to contain mature eggs and so far i’ve had 7eggs/5mature, 9eggs/7mature x2 and 10 eggs/8mature. I take coQ10 supplement as they is meant to help with egg development and possible the reason i’ve seen a slight improvement over my egg collections so that might be one thing to try. Good luck!

also i’ve done double triggers on my last 2 cycles and they have yielded the most number of blasts so maybe something to explore there too with your clinic

33 eggs collected (ouch) They didn’t tell me Specifically how many were mature but:

24 fertilised

23 made it to day 4

14 blastocysts (10 grade A and 4 grade C) all frozen (10 lovely days in hospital 🤦🏼‍♀️)

Percentage wise I think there were a couple more fertilised than expected, the embryologist told me that the higher number of eggs the lower the percentage of mature eggs but we seem to have been lucky.

That is a great result, sorry you ended up ill in hospital but let's hope you won't have to do another fresh cycle with all those frosties! xx

Definitely. I was so poorly I don’t think I would do it again anyway to be honest. But the clinic have said we won’t need to so just waiting for AF so can start a natural FET (no more drugs thankfully 😂) good luck 🤞🏻🤞🏻
