I went to the doctor today for my first ultrasound at would be 7 weeks. Initially they told me to come Monday, but then changed it to today. They told me I’m 51 days today, according to ivf calculator it says 48 days. The doctor did the ultrasound and said the sac is small - around 2 days behind. HCG is 31,000, after pressuring her to give me some answers she said 80% chance everything is okay. The sonogram tech said oh don’t worry, I see this allll the time and it’s fine. The doctor went on talk about her miscarriages 🤢 and I’m very confused. Doctor also mentioned that maybe embryo planted two days later - is she just on the side of caution??
Should I be worried?? They said all levels are in line meaning bloodwork. I’m sick to my stomach all day and so beyond over my clinic. They have absolutely no bedside manner.

Could they see a baby inside with a heartbeat? What was the CRL length?
I posted this exact same concern on some different sites recently as one of my twins at 6 weeks and 7 weeks had a noticeably small sac compared to its twin? The “age” of the sac was measuring smaller than the baby by about 3 days. The baby inside was measuring about right for its dates and had a strong heartbeat but I read some horror stories on google about if the sac is 5mm or less bigger than the CRL then there was an 80% chance of miscarriage- and mine was at 7mm?
I read that drinking lots of water can help so drank and drank and drank some more for the next 2 1/2 weeks and at my 10 week scan yesterday the sac whilst still smaller than the other one was a bit less noticeable but baby was growing normally with good heartbeat so the doctor wasn’t concerned
I was so frantic I didn’t check and it doesn’t say it on the sonogram. There was a strong heartbeat. I’ll be drinking lots and lots of water - thank you for the tip.
I don’t know if I can post photos of the small sac size on here to show you visually but the little twin definitely looked “squished” in its sac - the bigger twin had a sac size of around 30mm at 7 weeks and the smaller one was more like 17mm so BIG difference. I did loads of late night panicking research on google and 17mm measured at 6+6 days when baby measured 7+1 and I was 7+4 on the day of the scan.
As long as the sac grows with the baby and assuming you’ve got more than 5mm difference between the CRL and the sac then odds are things will be fine - I think if you have 7mm then it’s a 75% chance of healthy pregnancy.
Thank you for sharing all your knowledge. Just hoping for the best after this long, long journey
Being 2 days behind can be normal. The dates you really go by are at the 12 week scan. Also when I was 6 weeks my HCG was 10,000. I know everyone’s HCG is different but I would say yours is great.
I wouldn’t be impressed with their bedside manner either 😬 x
I think your doctor might just be trying to be cautious, like most doctors naturally are. My doctor was the same, I had two scans and at 6 and 7 weeks and even though everything looked great she still made the point of saying I’m not out of the woods yet/still a long way to go. The most positive thing she said was “well pregnancies with a heartbeat at 6 weeks will most likely result in a live birth.” So warm and fuzzy!
First of all congratulations on your pregnancy such lovely news. Secondly I agree strongly with others- if is not that uncommon to measure a day or so behind/ ahead . In my dating scan I measured 2 days ahead. It’s not an exact science. The fact there is strong heartbeat is encouraging.I’m sorry they weren’t more sensitive ( not what you needed at all) wishing you the best with your pregnancy xxx
