I am so so sorry, I don’t have any advice ( hope others can) but again really sorry to see this update ( hoping it would be your time) My Gran was 40 having my mum ( this was in 1959 very unheard of then!) so don’t think you are too old xxx
I just need to contact a doc to do some laparoscopy, hysteroscopy and us I have only left tube and looks like I been often ovulating from that side to put dye in it if is ok ...
I done 3 fresh and 3 frozen cycles...I try everything and the last 4 rounds didn’t get me anywhere... xx
I would definitely push for further investigations before pursuing more treatment. You can have a hysteroscopy with a laparoscopy. Has the clinic offered you low dose steroids?or low dose aspirin? Some ladies have extra progesterone too. There has to be a reason why the cycles aren’t working it cannot be just “bad luck.” xxx
I did ask the clinic for some investigation last year I even suggest laparoscopy but they “shut me down “saying everything is ok with me . My all blood test r good I responded well on meds and no issues with lining and my embryos look really good when before frozen transfer.
I had feelings that must be something wrong after two unsuccessful cycles last year but I just go with what they was saying and trust them hoping that “maybe “this time will happen 😔
They never offered me low dose steroids or aspirin and progesterone.
Only now with this natural frozen cycle I push them to give me extra progesterone so they did. I’m just tried ...I really don’t know which way to go now😔😔
I’m so sorry the clinic were so unsupportive of your requests. It’s tough isn’t it you do trust that the clinics know what’s best but trust your own instincts you know when something isn’t quite right. Could be worth seeking another opinion? If it was me I would be wanting answers/change in protocol before considering more treatment. I took aspirin after ovulation as I have endo so wanted to “reduce inflammation “. The drs have me on low dose steroid & cyclogest till 12 weeks ( due to raised nk cells & the progesterone prob coz I have endo so have lower level) the thing is these things may not make a huge difference but it makes me feel like I’m giving the baby the best chance. You want to do all you can to give yourselves the best chance. It’s exhausting we have to fight so hard to get heard but sometimes it’s the only way. I wish I fought harder to get my endo diagnosis years before I did coz I knew something wasn’t right. Frustrating. Give yourselves some time out this journey is wearing , seek another opinion & regroup. You can do this xxx
Awh sweet Olivia this is so heartbreaking 😞 gutted for ya. You did everything you could up to now. You might be 40 soon but your body has a whole year at 40. There’s still time if you can manage it. Hopefully your clinic or new clinic can give some guidance .
Olivia am so sorry , I had no issues conceiving my son on our very first cycle at 39.... However at 44 am pulling my hair out at why we keep having failures at our attempts fir a sibling. I am now on my 6th attempt and think this will be the last as already feeling like this one isn’t heading in the right direction.
Over the years I have pushed & pushes for more investigations but I keep being told it’s my age which is very frustrating. My clinic do not believe in giving amh tests & also don’t believe in any extra supplements. We stayed with them due to convenience & fact we had frozen embryos but now am regretting not changing years ago.
I know we are so very thankful we have one child but we simply want to complete our family & move on.
Wishing you heal quickly as emotionally I know how hard it is. 😘
I’m so incredibly sorry 😢 I know a bit about how you feel having done 4 fresh cycles in a year and also being on the cusp of turning 40. Each bfn is such a shock and hurts like a b!tch. I know for me it’s after the shock wears off that the pain hits. Look after yourself during this time. I hope that your follow up consultation can help provide some guidance xx
So sorry to hear this Olivia. I don't know what to say. I've had 3 failed freeh cycles too in a year and now I've had enough. I'm taking a break from it all for now. It's been too much for me, physically and emotionally.....😥 xx
I know u done so much to make this to work and it’s so unfair when it doesn’t specially for u working with children’s and u just want this one on your own .
We in the same clinic but I think I will be moving back to my very first clinic I had my very first cycle specially now nothing is keeping us there anymore...xx
I'm getting by is really all I can say. We've been trying naturally for the last 3 months but nothing. We'll continue to try naturally as I'm not ready for another cycle xx
I call this morning the clinic next to me and I make a appointment to see the doctor but the early appointment I got on 15 sep but I ask if we can do some tests or laparoscopy before that. I don’t want to waist anymore time so I can have some answers.xx
I’m so sorry to hear this Olivia. Did you have all the FET done in the same clinic? Did they do some investigations to see why they might not implant? Perhaps your body is ‘rejecting’ the pregnancy? Did you have specific tests done?
Please don’t lose hope, I know it’s easier said than done but you can still do it at your age. Lots of hugs x
So sorry for how you're feeling Olivia...more tests and investigations when you're ready could be the way forward...but just absorb the news and cry and do what you need to...even if it's eating hula hoops chocolate Ice cream...whatever makes you happy... ( that s what I did)...you still have time...pls don't lose hope xxx
Hi Olivia, I'm so sorry to hear this. But please don't lose hope. My sister who went through IVF, went through something similar. Her previous clinic was a nightmare. They had in one round of FET, thawed all her embryos and she could only transfer1 . Which was BFN, her fresh cycle was also a BFN.
When she transferred to her new clinic they had suggested to do a test which would show whether she had some natural killer cells . The test would have cost them around 2k to have done. Her consultant said that in the instance she would be carrier she would be given another injection to use during the first 12 or so weeks of her pregnancy. After her failed fresh cycle at her new clinic, her consultant prescribed her that injection to use in their next cycle as well as lubion injection as she had an earlier bleed. That cycle which was a Fet was successful and she has now given birth to healthy boy who is now 6 months old. Her lining wasn't perfect and it was a 5Ba embryo. However, this was the first time she saw a positive line and I believe she had 3/4 failed rounds of IVF, including fresh and FET.
Maybe speak to your consultant and ask them for some extra tests
I am 40 now and going through IVF. I believe even at 40 we still have a chance to bring a rainbow baby. But I know its disheartening with every negative we get Xx
I had two grade A, 5 days blastocysts embryos transferred in January this year. Only one had stuck which I lost unfortunately at around 9 weeks. I dont know what's more cruel, having a BFN or a miscarriage, having some hope and having it taken away from you. But I know they both are painful and the feeling of loss is unbearable.
Have a cry and take it out of your system. Have a small break from IVF and when you feel slightly better then speak to your consultant and see what they suggest or change your clinic and take advise from elsewhere. We women are resilient and fighters xx
I’m so sorry to hear this - as others have said take some time to do what you need to do but be kind to yourself. This is such a tough journey - do some of the things that bring you comfort and definitely have some wine!
40 is just a number, there are plenty of ladies who have had success much later - I’m 43 and we had our 3rd transfer last week. From our journey I’d say protocol has a massive impact on eggs and the quality of the embryos so maybe explore different protocols? Professor Quenby in Coventry does do investigations into failed implantation and you can self refer for further tests. Take Care Hun xx
Hey, I’m really sorry but I can’t remember what it cost I looked at it ages ago. I think there’s a number on their website and when I spoke to them they were really helpful and explained the process, costs etc. Wishing you so much luck Hun xx
So sorry Olivia it’s heartbreaking 😢 thinking of you. Looks like you got quite a few frozen from your one cycle so lots of hope if you went again and got another few goes in the next year that it could work so I wouldn’t worry about your age too much. It only takes the one little embryo. Doesn’t help you right now I know but maybe when you feel ready to think about moving forward, 5 embryos is amazing to get xx
Sending you a big hug too. I know that feeling. You're not alone on here. Take as long as you need to, and don't worry about age. It's a lottery no matter what and you done really well with all those embryos. Xx
What tests did they do in between? We only got 2 embryos and after the first FET failed they won’t let me transfer the last one until they do more tests! I am booked for the NK cells and ERA on this cycle they are testing my clotting and thyroid also
I did mention last year to them maybe NK cells ...but they said we don’t do it anymore without giving good reason why ...saying they don’t think that the issue having all ready baby.
I did repeat all my blood tests last year and I done for clotting but all come back normal.
I have on back of my head since last year to do laparoscopy with hysteroscopy just to check if everything is ok there and then take it from there....but to be honest I really don’t know which way to go now 😔😔xx
So sorry for your loss and completely gutted for you. I know how hard it is to go through this. We are currently on cycle 5 and have no children so completely understand. Just look after yourself and give yourself time to heal.
After loosing two frozen embryos i did mention PGS test but she said ...well u got only two embryos left so is no point...
I mention laparoscopy and she said no needed I mention ERa test ...answer was no needed.... I even lost the embryo from a cycle I had my baby 😔 I don’t have trust to them anymore. They should done some investigation in between instead letting me loose embryo after embryo.
If we decide to do one more fresh cycle and be lucky enough to get few embies yes I will ask for pgs test but my mind is set to have laparoscopy first ...just to check if everything is ok . Xx
It really sounds like it might be time to talk to another clinic and find a doctor you feel listens to you. I felt fobbed off all the time by my last clinic and moving was the best thing I ever did xx
Olivia, I really feel for you. I’ll also be turning 40 in November. What you’ve been through is heart breaking.
I did PGS on 2 viable blastocysts (from 13 eggs). And one didn’t reach the normal threshold. So I only had 1 embryo and did the transfer (FET) on Monday. Still waiting...
Reading medical literature as an ex-scientist, it appears that the two key factors are embryo quality and uterus lining. For embryo quality, PGS is the only reliable way to determine chromosome abnormalities. The two blastocysts I had both looked very good but one was abnormal according to the PGS results.
For your uterus lining, have you had a hysteroscopy done? With mine, they found a cyst in my uterus and had it removed.
I hope your investigations go well. If you’re looking for a different clinic, hfea.gov.uk/ has really good statistics. I was extremely surprised by the variation of the clinics looking at the stats. Lab protocol is a large factor of success rate. So worth scrutinising that, too.
I shall be thinking of you and wishing you the best.
