Me and my husband are doing our first ivf abroad. Today we attended the clinic for first scan. Dr could see 1 big follicles and 2 small on right egg and 2-3 on the left egg. In Dr opinion I should do another scan on Friday and on Monday 03/08 egg retrieval. The Dr also suggested to do transfer of 2 embryos 1-2 days later. When we asked if they could froze them and we do the transfer later she said doing transfer now is better. Do I understand it correctly that she doesn’t think that our embryos could survive longer or even being frozen.any opinion in this?this is our first attempt and not very experienced.help please

Many clinics have a policy of day 2/3 transfer (or freeze) in case the embryos happen to be ones that just prefer being in their natural environment. Obviously day 5 transfers have better success rates because the clinic knows they’ve definitely made it to blastocyst stage but if you’ve only got 1 or 2 then there is no real point in waiting that long - may as well pop them back in. Culturing to day 5 is Also only useful if you get loads of embryos and clinic can’t decide which to put back in that early.
Also some clinics have better success rates with fresh transfers and some better with frozen but again it depends on the individual - if you get OHSS FET is better, or if you’re over 40 or if the embryo didn’t become a blastocyst until day 6
Since your abroad and to avoid having to do another trip I’d just do the transfer
Thanks a mill.thats very clear to me now.we r thinking that we do at least 2 ivf rounds so we can freeze as many embryos as we can and than transfer so i have time to have even 2 babies.but isnt that simple in our case.i ll turn 37 soon
Even at the best clinics only 80-90% of embryos survive thaw. Also if embryos are unlikely to make it past day 2 or 3 they have the best chance by being returned to the woman I've heard
