First cycle scan- huge cyst

Hello all, fertility newbie here. I have pcos and hypothyroidism & my partner has all 3 male factor infertility. We started our first ever ivf cycle last week, today is day 7 and I just had my first ultrasound. They saw some good growth on right ovary but found a large cyst on my left ovary, the nurse wasn’t sure what it’s significance was and felt it might be a hemorrhagic cyst but she wasn’t sure. From what I saw it was huge. She said she will let our consultant know, and took some bloods, but it might be Monday before I hear back.in the mean time we are to carry on with morning fyremadal injections and evening menopur injections

I’m a little concerned that this might effect our plans for this cycle- has anyone else had similar? Does a cyst mean the cycle has to stop? Is this the start of ovarian hyper stimulation? I wanted to ask far more questions to the nurse but we waited an hour before going in and was told they were running behind after double booking people :(

Any help gratefully accepted

Thanks

Hi don’t worry too much until you actually need to worry.

A cyst does not automatically mean treatment will stop so fingers crossed it will be okay for you.

Cysts are often a side effect of the drugs and they will assess each person individually

No worries. I expect like me and loads of other women you’re worrying about every little thing that happens! It’s impossible not too but doesn’t help when the nurse doesn’t have time to discuss things with you

Absolutely! Didn’t help at all...we saw a different nurse today after a long wait who was clearly rushing and not able to really answer questions and put my mind at ease...so hard not to worry about every little thing specially on your first time

So glad I have this group :)

I had a cyst on my ovary during egg collection all still went ahead. They just have to be slightly more careful on egg collection. Fingers crossed all will be okay. I doubt it will cause any issues xxxx good luck

Is not that uncommon to have a cyst after starting stimulation. On my first ivf cycle nurse told me that I probably have one cyst which they will take it out on egg collection day. The only issue with cysts is that they are taking most of the hormones that you are injecting during stimulation so the other follicles are not getting enough. If you are already on stim I think the clinic will not cancel your cycle.

Good luck 🤗🤞
