I am wondering why things like blue cheese, runny eggs and smoked salmon can be fatal to embryos but nothing is said on eggs (ovocytes). Surely, eggs also get any bacteria from the blood supply?
I am asking this as I am likely to have to do a long time of Freeze all cycles. I don’t want my ovocytes to be spoiled by food. On the other hand, if it’s safe, my life would be better if I did not have to overcook everything and have some soft and blue cheese.
Does anyone has information on this?
Xx

Hi Lily, not sure about raw fish and blue cheese but most eggs in the UK are OK - as long as they have the red lion stamp (egginfo.co.uk/egg-safety/ad....
On the other hand I was doing some research on diet a while back and found this (fertilityiq.com/lifestyle/f.... I didn’t end up subscribing (just reading the free stuff) but found the analysis useful. From my end, I’ve stopped eating red meat during my current IVF cycle and we’ll see what happens. Xx
I think it's because of bacteria that cause food poisoning passing to the baby through the shared blood supply whereas this wouldn't affect eggs safely tucked away in the ovaries, so enjoy your rare steaks, sushi and blue cheese for a while longer until you're hopefully pregnant
When I went through my first cycle my doctor told me that ivf is stressful enough without demanding stress about restricting your diet. They said the only thing g to reccomend is no alcohol!
