I am 7wks and 3 days pregnant. Had my first midwife appointment last Wednesday. I just had a call from my clinic saying a doctor would like to discuss my blood results. As we have suffered a previous miscarriage I am now in panic mood! What could be wrong? Why do I need to talk with a doctor and not my midwife.
Any suggestions please xxx

Could it maybe not just be as simple as anaemia or something like that? I know my midwife takes my bloods but it’s always my doctor that discusses the results...x
I was wondering if it was that, but last time when my red blood cells were low the midwife told me. So now I'm not sure. Just makes it feel like something more.
Hmm... I don’t know. I’ve only ever discussed results with a doctor. When can you speak to your doctor? Surely if it was something ‘wrong’ then they would want to see you sooner rather than later? x
Hi my midwife just called. She said there is nothing to worry about. There is a possibility that I might be a thalassemia (not completley sure what that is) carrier. This supposedly doesn't harm my baby. My doctors appointment is at 11am tomorrow. But speaking with her has completely relaxed me. Hopefully the doctor can reassure me again tomorrow.
Thank you so much to reaching out to me. I really appreciate it. XXX
I have the thalassemia trait but not my husband, so we didn't have an issue.
As long as only you have it and not your partner, everything is ok. They will probably ask your other half to do a blood test to confirm that he doesn't have the trait.
Thank you. That's very helpful to know. I am from a mixed ethnic group, whereas my partner is Scottish. I am hoping that I am the only carrier. I will see what my doctors says tomorrow.
