I always said I wouldn’t come into forums but I’ve turned into a paranoid freak. I’m new here and this is my first ever ivf cycle. I had my EC last Wednesday and my 5day blastocyst ET Monday just gone. It was a lovely grade 1 beauty.
Anyway I’ve somehow got this tickly cough and was once again paranoid is it the dreaded Corona virus but I’ve no other c-word symptoms.
My worry is despite my care sheet from CARE fertility telling it’s ok to cough, sneeze and many other things I’m so worried. I’ve also read that our uterus are like little bomb proof shell areas and coughing won’t affect the embie. I’ve also seen many forums saying ladies have had hacking coughs etc and still have managed BFPs.
Please reassure me...
Thank you all!

Coughing wont make any difference to your little embryo, you cant dislodge it. And corona is a dry, hacking cough. Try and remember that this time if year plenty of people get colds and hayfever as the seasons change. Im one of them, every year the same x
Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. It’s not a continuous cough, more an annoying one. Almost like it’s off the back of the sedation from EC. I don’t suffer with hayfever so think it’s just a wee cough from maybe the weather or even as a result of the ivf and all our bodies go through. Just have this awful worry it’s jiggling the embryo about and not allowing it to stick. When you’re in isolation and in the 2ww your mind goes crazy. Thank you for the reassurance
I know the 2ww is awful, second week last part of it i found really hard and you worry about lots of things and convince yourself its not worked. But i think if you had corona youd feel absolutely awful a few days after the cough started. Remember plenty of people are still getting normal coughs and colds too, and that your body gors through a lot with egg collection. I felt awful the first time and second time not so bad but still run down. Youve been through a lot xx
Thanks for taking the time to reply to me. I appreciate it. Not a hayfever sufferer, just think it’s a standard cough tbh but when corona is going round, you’re in isolation, on annual leave and in the 2ww I feel like I’m overthinking everything . I guess just natural x
I got a sore throat the day or transfer which turned into a full blown cold, streaming eyes and nose and hacking cough that wouldn’t let me sleep. I too was worried but I got a BFP! Don’t worry :))
This is good to hear. Thank you for replying and sharing your story. It has reassured me. How does one keep sane when in isolation and in the 2ww?! Generally I’ve been ok and feel positive considering I've got this cough and have been feeling meh with it. Like you didn’t sleep for two nights. I’ve also had no real symptoms. Again tried not to look too much into this as to whether I should or shouldn’t because of the misconception between pregnancy and the pessaries. Our minds are powerful tools! Anyway, appreciate your time xx
Hey kelz, ha, i know what you mean!! I found the app ‘mindful ivf’ really helpful, it has a 2WW section and I listened to it before bed each night, (the icon is a little cloud wearing headphones on a turquoise background)
I’m still using it now for ‘first trimester’ it’s an Irish dude who’s also a fertility consultant. Anyway might not be your cup of tea but I found it helpful.
In terms of getting better...drink lots of fluids, hot water with fresh lemon and ginger (and honey if you needs a sweetener) and eat lots of nutritious food, warm comforting foods and lots of veg.
Keep your feet warm during the 2WW, wear night big fluffy comfy socks.
Visualize your embryo sticking and growing into a baby and having a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.
Watch your favourite comedies and stand up shows, listen to uplifting music. Catch up with people that make you feel good (calls & video calls atm!) Have fun and be silly.
Stay positive
Hi Kelz2020 i can reassure you theres nothing to worry about. I actually got quite sick during my ivf. Coughing, throwing up, sneezing and I was advised that some of the meds make the immune system low. I did believe that the process did not work but 7days after transfer i did a test and I got my big fat positive So don't stress. Everything will fall into place.
Thanks so much for replying. It’s really reassuring. I’m sorry you weren’t well but please you got your BFP. I’m so happy I joined the forum after hiding away from it x
