Had 6 week scan today- no baby

Hi all,

I managed to fall pregnant but had low HCG levels but they were tripling so I was hopeful....I went in for my 6 week scan today, there was a gestational sac but no sign of a baby or heartbeat. I had symptoms last week, felt a bit sick and v hungry & tired etc but now I’m not feeling much other than sore boobs and tired.

The doctor wants me to come back in a week for another scan and stay on my meds. Should I be hopeful or just be prepared for the worst? I’m on progesterone so I doubt I will bleed even if I am going to miscarry. It all seems so confusing and worrying especially in these times.

Sorry you're in such a very stressful situation! All you can do is wait - it could be a bad sign that they didn't see a fetal pole, or it could be that it's just too early, there's no way to know. Hang in there - hope your next scan brings some more answers xx

Hi Sunbeam. So so sorry to hear this. However, I would say stay on your meds and stay hopeful. Pregnancy is quite a changeable situation and everyone is different so yours might just be too small for them to see yet. Lots of love xxxx

Stay positive! I had low hcg levels but we’re rising normally and they couldn’t see anything in my first scan, had to be monitored and told it was possibly ectopic but had a scan a week later and they could see the sack and a little blob. That little blob is now my 5 month old boy! Have everything crossed for you hun🤞🏼🤞🏼! Sending you lots of love and luck xxxx

Awww that's a really tough situation to be in. But there is always hope. I've read lots of stories where people go back the following week and all is well. I know it'll be an agonizing week for you so sending you lots of strength and love xx❤️❤️

I'm so sorry to read this but sometimes it's to early for them to see much and another week makes all the difference. I can imagine the wait being challenging but try to keep positive. Good luck with the scan xx

I am in the same situation. My HCG went from 77 to 324 in 3 days but then only increased to 736 after 4 days. Went for a scan yesterday (6 weeks and 1 day) and there was nothing at all. It's so hard to get that positive and have it ripped away. X

I’m sorry to hear this. What did they advise? Are you going back for another scan?

They took my HCG levels yesterday. If they have risen, I will go back for a scan today. They are concerned it might be ectopic.

Good luck both of you. I am also awaiting my second HCG results today. It’s such an anxious wait. My results on Monday was 614 which I believe is low for 5+4. I am hoping it has doubled or at least increased by 60% xx

As long as your numbers are approximately doubling every 48-72 hours. That's more important than the number just now. Keeping my fingers crossed for you. X

The hospital just called. My HCG has more than quadrupled in 5 days. I have to go in for another scan today. I had really given up. X

The nurse called and said my HCG had shot up to 2,500! I’m so confused! She said she didn’t want to scan me until next week still but if I had pain or bleeding then I need to call and go in. I have a bit more hope now.....how did you get on? X

I had another scan and they think they can see a sack with something in it but no heartbeat. They said they would expect to see more by now. Back again on Monday... X

No deffintley don't give up hope.. it may just be too early I was exactly the same as you and then a week later there was a heart beat. Was there a yolk sac?

I was told there was no baby at 6w4d and sent for a D&C. At 7w3d I was put under for the procedure and they did another ultrasound. Found baby and heartbeat. She’s four now. Good luck!!

This happened to me. Could see the gestational sac but nothing else. Went back a week later and baby was measuring perfectly- they like to hide and can easily be missed so early on
