Try how many times before giving up?

I am wondering how many cycles people do without success before giving up. Did anyone try more than 6 times?

I am asking as I calculated that for 40% chance of success, I would have to try 15 times

It worked for me on my 6th go. I know someone who is 50 years old and it worked For her on her 13th time xxx people keep going until they can’t financially, emotionally or physically xxx

I got pregnant on my 7th transfer. It's a personal decision and also depends on finances and emotions. I wasn't ready to give up as I had frozen embryos. Only you will know what is right for you and it also depends on the reasons for the failures...ie egg quality etc xx

My problem is egg quality.

Hey - me again!

When we started IVF we said we would only ever do 3 rounds. We have now upped that to 5 maybe 10 !!! Age will probably stop us more than giving up. We got a BFP on our second but MC - some people may think that makes it easier to go again but in actual fact when we then got a BFN on our 3rd it made it even harder in some ways because it was a reality check that one round is so separate from another.

I think it important to highlight that because no matter how much we want to rely on statistics we can't say we need xxx rounds for yyy chance of success, I was trying to do something similar at the beginning and my consultant was very quick to correct me - you have to take each round very separately because each is very different.. its a clean slate each time. You never know next round you might get an incredible quality egg and a BFN on a day 3 transfer, or you might get a poor quality egg which you transfer on day 2 that also results in a BFP, there is so often no real logic to the results.

We are onto our 4th round. My best friend was successful on her 7th and another friend on her 9th. However I also know someone who was 43, with poor egg quality and had twins on her first round so it really is a lottery

Not sure thats helpful, but I wanted to say don't let the statistics put you off - there is always a story that breaks the rules xx

Hmmmm, I guess it depends on what you mean by cycles - as it can vary on how many good embryos you get from person to person or if you mean transfers. For me, Ive just had my 8th transfer (got BFP twice but they didnt last) and 6 negatives. 2 transfers were own eggs and all the others were from donor eggs as Im a bit older and wasnt producing as many blastocysts.......so no joy yet for us.xx

I’m only new to this game and from what I see , if you keep going it happens and if you give up you’re done. 🤣

That sounds ridiculous, but it’s what the other girls have said. Every round is it’s own journey and doctors can’t predict much in it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My husband and I said we would do three rounds ..... but..... round one got one embryo ?!?!..... and it didn’t work . Now we have two left and are already talking about more rounds due to our variables etc.

I also have in the back of my head that we might be the people with no children, three holidays a year, a dog and a cat. 🐕 🐈

But, whatever happens I won’t regret trying if that’s what turns out to be our story. I would regret if I didn’t try. 🤨

I know it helps to ask others but , talk to your consultants , be realistic looking at your variables , weigh up the finances and search your own heart and be honest with what you know you could handle.

Deciding isn’t easy and you will revise your plan as you take steps into the journey .

Best of luck charting your own journey 😘

Hi lovely. I thought I would only do it once because I don't deal well with stress and I can be an emotional mess without this journey! However, we're about to go on to our fourth round.... It's just that important to us. And I'm going to keep going while I am able. Only you will know how many you can and want to put yourself through emotionally and financially. The only rule we have for ourselves currently is that we won't go in to debt for it, but I think a lot of people do, so that's not a rule you need to have!

For us this is our 6th cycle and the last that I want to have.

The last 5 where own sperm and eggs, with fresh transfers, as we never had any great quality embryos to freeze, not always a blastocist on day5, or other times not great quality but tranafered anyway just in case we were lucky. My 4th cycle was successful but miscarried at 12wks.

So on this last round... we just went full guns... with embryo adoption. We figured that having the best option on quality would give us the best chance not only for a BFP, but a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby as we are also both 43yrs.

Everyone is different though, so you just have to do what is right for you
