Hi guys! So I have egg collection tomorrow after buserelin since New Year’s Eve and menopur the last few weeks and good Lord I am a noticeable amount bigger and gone up almost a dress size!!! I don’t mind because what happens happens, but I haven’t been scoffing as I haven’t been particularly hungrier than usual etc - so unsure how i have gained so much!
Apparently it can be water retention, has anyone else found this - either general weight gain despite sticking to a similar/usual diet or is it water retention?!
Thanks again.

Hiya! Has your clinic spoken to you about OHSS risks? If you’re gaining weight rapidly, that’s a symptom. There’s a nurse on here called @dianearnold who can give you her opinion; I’m obviously not a medical professional but I was at risk for OHSS and my clinic told me to monitor my weight and let them know about any rapid increases.
Hello, I did suffer with water retention and weight gain during my cycle 🙈 However I did suffer with OHSS during a previous cycle so monitored my weight gain daily (I have PCO and a high AMH).
Theres nothing to be lost by mentioning your situation to your clinic. You will obviously have taken your trigger shot now, but post egg collection do keep your eye on your weight.
From the sounds of things you will have grown some supe dupa eggs 🙂🤞
Unfortunately OHSS can develop after egg retrieval, for some woman it can come on after an embryo transfer too making for a tough few weeks in early pregnancy.
That said it does often go hand in hand with producing a high number of follicles (which isn't always good as quality becomes an issue). On the basis that you only had the scan the other day it sounds like you have a sensible number of healthy follicles. A high AMH level can also be a marker for the likelihood of developing OHSS.
It sounds like all is in order in your case so please don't worry.
The process is pretty straightforward for 'risk OHSS patients' (and clearly you are not one of them). But simply for info, they often just delay it by a few days and continue to monitor via blood tests.
My blood results started to indicate I was going into the risk zone for OHSS just before my egg collection in November. The clinic simply had me coast with very low meds for an extra two days, took bloods again, and all was fine for egg collection. I felt absolutely fine after collection. The overall results were good with 10 being grown to d5. All were PGS tested, with 4 coming back as normal. In my case all had to be frozen again due to the OHSS risk, ready for a FET 🙂
Hope that helps, 🤞🤞 for you tomorrow. Just relax and it will be over before you know it. Then onto the next stage of your exciting journey 🤗
Hi, I gained a lot of water retention at this stage too, I did over stimulate and they collected 19 eggs so no wonder my stomach became so big! I wouldn’t worry too much just keep an eye on things In case your weight changes rapidly. With you having buserilin trigger injection this should calm things down for you i’d imagine as mine did. Huge good luck for you tomorrow! Xx
I found that I put on most weight/bloated was the round I used buserelin. Other rounds with different meds haven’t seemed as bad. Hopefully now you can stop the buserelin that might help. But also definitely keep an eye on things as others have said, because OHSS can be horrible. Lots of luck for your egg collection tomorrow. We have ours tomorrow too! xxx
