Jogging during FET

Hi everyone,

I’m very new to this forum and so happy to have found it. All you women are amazing and so kind. I am about to have my first FET after a failed fresh cycle at Christmas and wanted to get peoples thoughts on jogging and if it’s ok. For the fresh cycle I was Uber strict and didn’t do any exercise that month and just relaxed etc as much as possible. However I keep reading mixed info about whether or not exercise my help or hinder. Does anyone have any thoughts or tips here? I’m trying to do anything to get my lining strong and in general be in a good place for the transfer in a few weeks xx thank you in advance!

I didn't run from transfer until test date (was sadly BFN) but I ran right up until then. I was tempted to run in the 2WW until I chatted to nurse on transfer day who said I would forever wonder if running caused a BFN. I would do the same at my next transfer even though no running didn't get me a BFP. I did do a parkrun (walking) on 2DP5DT but I didnt ride my bike or do any running. Hope it goes super well for you.

Thank you so much. I’m sorry to hear it was a BFN this time. I was thinking along the same lines - exercise up until embryo transfer and then taking it easy afterwards. That’s great you do park run and can walk. I have always wanted to try one but assumed you had to run the whole thing!

Very best of luck for any future transfers :) x

Thanks! Yes, there have always been people walking at every parkrun I've ever been to.

I’m starting my first FET in Feb and was wondering the same about jogging. I didn’t do any exercise really during my fresh cycle but I’ve thought about it this time and think I will keep running up until transfer day as this cycle doesn’t seem like it’s going to be as intense, plus like yourself I want to be in a good place and running makes me happy😊xx

Thank you. Yes I figured the same, like it’s ultimately important to be happy and feel relaxed so anything to support that can’t be a bad thing. I’ve never really run any faster than a jog anyway so I won’t be doing anything too strenuous! Good luck with this cycle. :) xx

Hello, the general advice seems to be that if you’re used to exercising and do it regularly then you are ok to continue with gentle exercise. But it depends on the individual. I used to do a lot of running and gym classes, but during my treatment I’ve been told I have a thin uterine lining and heavy exercise can exacerbate that, so I’ve had to cut it out completely during treatment and now stick to walking.

There is a lot of conflicting information out there. The way I see it is you don’t want to tire your body and muscles out to much, as you don’t want to direct blood flow away from your uterus towards recovering muscles. But if you’re used to cardio then it can be good to do gentle exercise and get your heart rate up to improve circulation and get the blood flowing towards your uterus to hopefully aid implantation. So really I’d avoid doing anything that would make me ache or get really out of breath. Though this is mainly due to my lining issues, I need all the blood flowing there that I can get 🙈

Sorry, that’s a long response. But just wanted to give you some context as to why I’ve had to stop xx

Thank you. Not at all. Long is good! This is very helpful as confirms the bits and bobs I thought might be happening regarding blood flow. I have my first scan on Monday so will see how the lining is looking before doing anything too strenuous. It feels like there’s a perfect but very specific balance to strike and may be a bit of trial and error for me! I hope everything goes really well for you x

I agree with Lavender96 completely as I have also done a lot of research on this. I’m doing a FET at the mo and whilst I’m still going to the gym with my PT we have modified all the exercises. I’m training much more gently and we have cut out the cardio/ heavy weights etc. Whilst exercise is important to get the blood flowing, I do think it’s perhaps important to dial it down a bit. I, personally, wouldn’t want to go running and am not at the mo. As my nurse said, why risk it? However I do also think that it’s a personal choice and you have to do what you feel comfortable with. You know your own body so obviously you’re not going to do something that could jeopardise your FET. All the very best xx

I believe it’s important to keep blood flow moving so I have swapped my gym work out for yoga and more walking. It helps keep my mind fresh and feels like I’m doing something positive.

I’d say if you’re a runner then run but maybe just keep it gentle . Ive only been doing couch to 5k since summer so I’ve set that down for now until I see how this FET situation goes down. We must be on a similar cycle. We didn’t have a fresh transfer and just doing FET now.

I’ve stopped running during FET mostly though because of the blood flow info that I’ve read. I have been for a couple of walks when I’ve felt like it but generally I’m resting and taking the meds . I’ve a scan on Monday too. That’ll be me ten days on three estrogen . Are you the same?

Hope you’re feeling ok 💐

Hey! Yes I think we are in very similar time. My 12 day scan is Monday and then I’d be looking to transfer a 5 day blast. My failed fresh cycle was at the start of December so it’s been nice to have a month off meds.m esp as it was Christmas. (In hindsight missing a fresh is probably not that bad an idea as my egg collection was a bit tricky so I was still quite sore when they did the transfer.)

Fingers crossed for your first scan and for your transfer. The transfer itself for me was way way easier than the egg collection so I hope it’s equally comfortable for you :)

Feeling ok, trying not to get too hopeful but also to stay positive. Xx

I was also doing couch to 5k but swapped that for much slower jogging. I’ll see how Monday is and then see if I do for a few more days.
