How long until we start IVF?

Hi all, we have recently been referred for IVF. The consultants have said we will definitely need to go straight for IVF... does anyone know how long it takes for us to actually start treatment? This is with the NHS. Thank you!

We had to wait a year after seeing consultant at fertility clinic before our first treatment started! X

Hi we only waited for my period to start after my consult to start IVF. I think it really depends on where you live xxx

We got told it would definitely be IVF in October. Then had to fill out loads of consent forms that we are discussing at next meeting in November. Consultant said in October it would be 2-3 months before treatment. I agree that i think it depends on the clinic. There is one an hour and a half a way that could do it a few weeks sooner but the one we picked in only 15 mins away so we picked that one. Good luck xx

Hi Lululemon67 i understand you are with st Barts, my husbands Sperm retrieval is in few hours hoping it’s successful. Do you have an idea when i could be starting treatment? We are at at Barts too n hoping to find some sperm to freeze.

I have had a sleepless night worrying about his procedure for today.

Hello, sorry to hear you had a rough night, I hope it goes well. We didn’t have sperm retrieval so I’m not sure how it works after that but we had initial appointment, more tests then follow up appointment with consultant, then info session was 2-3 months after that where you get the medication and we started the next cycle I think. Does that make sense?

Thank you , yes it makes sense to me. I had most test and scan done in February and May, it’s d retrieval that has delayed us till now.

I might be asked to repeat test as it’s been months we did them, who knows?

Hi, the whole process for us from initial consultation at our chosen clinic through to starting treatment was 5 months. Theres no IVF clinics near us so we were referred by our consultant at the local hospital, so to include that it took from May 18 from initial consultation with him, and me having to lose 2 1/2 stone to be accepted, right through to embryo transfer in July 19. 🥰

It will totally depend on your clinic but we were 11 months from being told we needed IVF to actually starting.

it really depends on your clinic and NHS area. I was already under the fertility clinic (letrozole didn’t make me ovulate) when i was put on the IVF waiting list and it took three months.

I think you can ask how long the waiting list is to stop you wondering. I asked when they told me I would need to go down the IVF route. Obviously they can only give you an estimate but I think they said around four months.
