Hello, sadly the two fresh embryos we had transferred earlier this month did not stick. We are however in the very fortunate position of having five frozen embryos.
I want to get on with having our first FET as soon as we can. As I'm new to this, can anyone please tell me how long you need to wait between transfers?
We have a meeting with our consultant in two weeks but I'm impatient to know.
Thanks.

sorry to hear about your transfer. Your clinic will have their own waiting times and treatment schedules so pretty much on their timescales but there isn’t a medically set time. I started taking the meds for fet as soon as period started after failed fresh transfer bleeding finished it that makes sense.
After a mc from a fresh I had a bleed (the actual mc turned into a sort of normal period after starting more heavy), then about a month after that, maybe 5 week, I had a period. I started my fet drugs on that cycle!!
Hi! I am really sorry the fresh cycle didn't work. Our clinic wants you to have a normal period after stimulations before the next cycle, i.e. you will get a post-IVF period, then wait for a normal period and then they would start you on the FET protocol. Very best of luck!
Hi, so sorry it didn’t work for you this time. I just had a failed FET and my clinic have started me on the pill as soon as my period came ready to do the next transfer the following month. Keeping my fingers crossed it works next time for you 🤞🙏
I had a successful FET starting meds the next natural period after the withdrawal bleed from coming off the fresh transfer meds - i.e., a month later. So you don't need to have a break if you're physically and mentally ready for it. That was at a private clinic though and my NHS clinic said I would need at least one natural period in between, but I think that's for scheduling not medical reasons.
Thank you. I have a meeting with my consultant five days before my first natural period is due and I'm hoping we can get started straight away. I'm not really sure how the medication will work this time around. I had to down-regulate from day 21 for my egg collection and am wondering if I'll have to do the same this time around. Hope not because it takes ages!
For a FET I think it depends on your clinic - my NHS one said I would need to take the pill for a week so they could time my period to work to their scheduling but the private clinic was fine with going off a natural period. The normal process in either option is to take oestrogen for 10 days starting day 2 or 3 of your period, then if lining's OK and the ovaries are 'quiet' you take progesterone for 5 days, then transfer. It's sooo much easier and gentler than a fresh transfer.
It stops any of the follicles maturing and ovulating (it keeps your ovaries 'quiet') and thickens your lining. So it means you can stay on the meds a bit longer if your lining's not quite thick enough without worrying about ovulation and triggers etc. You can also do a natural FET where you don't take any meds and in that you do ovulate, and transfer 5 days later, but it's apparently a lot harder for clinics to schedule so they don't do them that often.
Thank you. Yes, we're going to start prepping for our first FET when I get my next period about 9th Oct. That means I will have had one natural period before starting medication again. We're doing a short cycle this time and I'll be given Lubion to inject as well as having the progesterone pessaries. My consultant also wants to transfer two embryos so we're going all out! I'm having acupuncture to help me prepare/relax. Just really trying to put out positive energy for this one so fingers crossed x
I guess you are already starting with your cycle now. Glad to know you have everything covered including doing acupuncture. Good luck! I hope you will get this this time.
