Donor sperm - MOT5, MOT10, MOT20 ??

Sorry; one last post today!!

I spent weeks finding a donor and picked one that has a reported pregnancy. He only has MOT10 available, so I bought it. Cost £800!

But now the clinic is saying that MOT10 isn’t the best and the minimum should be MOT20.

The thought of finding another donor at such short notice is filling me with dread.

Anyone know about MOT (motility) numbers and can reassure me?

❤️

Are you having IVF or IUI??

After 2 Failures we've moved to a fully private clinic. We were seen there last week and discussed the sperm donor. I literally couldn't believe it when the consultant said 'if you're having IVF then just get whatever is cheapest. The MOT doesn't matter in IVF.'

I felt quite rude questioning it but I also asked to speak to the embryologist who confirmed it.

So that's IVF. But I have no idea if you're doing IUI sorry! Hope you get sorted

That is SO reassuring - thank you so much xxx

I am having IVF. My nurse said MOT20 is the best, but I already chose a donor that is MOT10. So confusing...

Ps. Did you find it hard choosing a donor? That is one thing I have really struggled with...so many options. Complete minefield...fear of not picking the right one etc.

Honestly they could not have been any clearer about the MOT and that they just don't care about it.. They also could have told me that I need the HIGHEST MOT and I would have believed them because they have their own sperm bank and could have pressured me to pay more...but they didn't.

No to be honest, we just wanted a tall and educated donor that IDEALLY had dark hair because that's the most similar to us. But listen, the rest is nurture. Don't overthink it. They wouldn't have made it to the sperm bank if they're not healthy so just choose one that seems similar to you and go for it. So easy to overthink x

Hi. We used donor sperm for our treatment and until you mentioned MOT I just realised that I never actually considered that as part of my donor choice!

I just assumed they all had good motility or they couldn’t be a donor and it wasn’t something they even put on the donor profile 🤷‍♀️.

The clinic never mentioned that it needed to form part of my choice and they just wanted the CMV to be right.

It’s strange how they all say different things but I think you’ll be absolutely fine with your choice🤞🤞 xx

My clinic also never mentioned MOT. I assumed all would be fine as they would test the sperm before offering it for donation. After my egg collection my embryologist told us that when the sperm had thawed the motility wasn’t as good as expected which definitely worried us - however they did ICSI at no extra cost (as we had no control over this element of treatment they didn’t charge us) and I am now pregnant with 4 high quality blastocysts frozen.

Hi Anna, how strange just private messaged you! My clinic said MOT10 and above was fine and I’m sure I read there isn’t any evidence of above being any more of a success Xx

May I ask where you purchase the sperm? After 3 Miscarriages we’ve been told to look for a sperm donor with a ‘reported pregnancy’. X

Thanks so much for the response. I ordered it from Cryos and it does say “reported pregnancy” although only MOT10 ❤️

Hi Anna :-) if you're doing ICSI it doesn't matter at all - don't let the clinic spook you
