Gonal-f cycle: Now 4-5 follicles are 11-13 mm and doctor said to take 1 week break from injections. Does this make sense?

Hi - This is my first gonal-f cycle and after 2+ weeks, I have approximately 4-5 follicles that are between 11-13 mm. My doctor has now said that I should stop injections for about 1 week in the hopes that a couple of them will shrink and a couple will remain bigger, so that I can start injections again with just 1-2 follicles growing larger. Does this make sense to anyone? Won't stopping the medication just make all of them shrink? Should I just lower the dose instead of stopping it entirely (I started at 50, then upped to 75, and finally to 100). Thank you for any thoughts!

I understand you totally but please follow your clinic advice they know better and they just want you to get Prego so just chill n just follow your doctor.

Are you doing an IVF/ICSI cycle (rather than IUI)? If so this advice is really weird - you want more not less follicles!

I’m assuming this is for IUI - in which case you won’t be able to continue the cycle if more than two follicles are too big, this is because you do not want more than two eggs to be released in case you end up with more than twins.

My IUI cycle was cancelled as I was too responsive to the lowest dose of Gonal F.

It's for IUI. I'm just worried that they are all going to shrink instead of just some of them shrinking? I was wondering if lower the dose instead of stopping for a week completely would've been better.

Definitely follow your clinics instructions!

For IVF you want as many follicles as possible, but for ovulation induction (and I’m guessing IUI has the same goal because you’re not having egg collection) you really just want 1 or 2 dominant follicles. If you have too many that are ready to go, so to speak, they may have to cancel your cycle because it wouldn’t be safe. I had similar with OI treatment. Good luck xx
