So our IVF cycle that started on Monday (day 1 stims) is already looking terrible. Day 5 scan today showed around 12 follicles but one very large dominant one which means it will likely stop any other follicles growing.
My consultant suggested we should cancel the cycle.
But we’ve gone away for this weekend and I’ve drawn up the Menopur for the next few days. So we’ll end up wasting a lot of meds.
So he’s now suggested we keep going and he’ll scan on Monday to see if other follicles have caught up and we can continue. Or whether I’ll just need to do trigger injection and try a natural cycle.
Had no idea that this could happen!
We’ve lost about £2K 😢😢😢.
Total arse. Feeling absolutely gutted. And now have to try and put a brave face on for our weekend away with family...meeting my new niece. I just can’t face it 😭😫

Don't panic yet, Jen, hang in for a few more days and see what happens. I had a lead follicle on my last cycle - it wasn't huge by day 5 but I think it was over 12mm and everything else was about 7/8mm. I ended up needing to do stims for 13 days, by which time the lead follicle was 36mm (!!) but we did end up getting 12 eggs of which 8 were mature. It's not necessarily going to scupper things xx
Our scan yesterday was more positive. 2 follicles had caught up with 2 others also potentially in the running. If we could get 5 mature eggs it would be great 🤞🤞.
Hello 👋🏻 I absolutely agree with LCharlton. Ovaries are strange beasts. I would definitely keep going. Hopefully you will have a pleasant surprise on Monday 🤞🏻✨🤞🏻✨🤞🏻✨💐Xx
We had a positive scan yesterday. So back on track although EC looks like it will be day 11 rather than 12. Only 9 days of stims which is a surprise! Might only get 3-4 eggs but 🤞🤞for quality 🙏
I would definitely keep going if you've got the meds prepared. I tend to get lead follicles take off early on too, but they do seem to even out so I hope it happens for you too🤞 Wishing you the best of luck for Monday xx
I had a dominant follicle on one side so only got one egg from it and only got 4 from the other side but ended up with two embryos put back - can’t they do this with you? Do they have to cancel?
Sorry to hear that . Did they say what “size”is that dominant follicle? Maybe is a cyst?
Last year my fresh cycle I had before I start injections they find cyst on my left ovary 21mm . They didn’t stop the cycle they aspirated the cyst so I could move on with injections...and on egg collections the took more egg on that left side then right. Xx
Thanks for your reply. It’s 18mm. It wasn’t there on the baseline scan done on day 1 of injections so it’s definitely a dominant follicle 😞
Poor poor you. So sorry to read this. If of any help my first week of stims i had a dominant one and the rest was lagging behind. I think the smallest ones were on the ovary with the dominant follicle so ended having most of my eggs from the other ovary. So i dont think you are out yet lovely. Xxx
Thanks. Sadly my left ovary has decided it’s on holiday and produced nothing. Luckily I’ve got 4 follicles today which look good. So 🤞🤞 we’ll get 4 eggs x
