So after a terrible week with OHSS we found out yesterday that 4 out of our 5 eggs that fertilised made it to day 5 & 6 blasts and were suitable to freeze. The outcome is way better than I expected for our first cycle - I’m 41 and we were told only 1 in 10 eggs at this age are probably viable so to have 10 collected and end up with 4 to freeze was a surprise.
Our issue now is whether we PGS test them (they were biopsied prior to freeze). The science is still contested but time is not on our side and part of me thinks it will save the pain of multiple failures.... BUT I am super scared that after all of this we’ll end up with none for transfer.
What have others done and what was the ‘normal’ % of the embies you tested (particularly if you are over 40?)

Congrats on the 4. Having suffered two miscarriages and struggling to get pregnant afterwards we went down the IVF path. We had pgs done on mine and totally recommend it. We now have peace of mind that whatever we transfer (if it implants) will be chromosomally normal and will take away any potentially devastating situations after transfer. Why risk transferring one only for it to miscarry or worse still it having an abnormality that causes you to make the toughest decision later on and hence waste more time, money and cause heartache. Anything pgs abnormal wont be transferred so better to find out as early as possible if I were you. Just my two cents of course 💛
Thank you. Yes I am thinking it makes sense and even if we end up with none it may save us a lot of heartache down the track....can I ask how your testing went?
I think I'm out! It's 6dp5ft of a hatching so should have implanted and got my bfp by now! I've got a history of low progesterone and to be honest I think we transferred in the wrong window or at least I'm hoping that is why it's failed! We are going to do an ERA next cycle which will determine exactly when you transfer. I wish I had done it prior to transferring this precious pgs blastocyst but I guess Dr assumed we'd be in the 80% that transfer at 5days post ovulation...feel like we let the little blastocyst down by experimenting with it. I guess Dr thinks we had some to spare? (Had 6 pgs normal blastocysts) or maybe that's just me blaming the Dr! Depending on how many pgs you get back I suggest you do an ERA first do you dont risk your precious pgs blasts xx
Oh no! I haven’t heard of ERA but look into it. 6 is a good number but I totally understand how terrible it feels when it doesn’t get a positive result. Fingers crossed it’s just an early negative and may still stick x

So much better! Ended up in hospital briefly on Friday due to breathing difficulties but I think the bloat has finally gone down and this news cheered me up (especially as I am now not sure I can face another collection cycle!)
