GP referral to fertility clinic (NHS) - Advice

Hi all, I wonder if anyone may be able to give me some advice? Late 2017 I had both Fallopian Tubes removed due to adhesions, and at the time I was not ready to freeze eggs etc as losing my natural fertility as such a young age was quite a shock. I am now at the right point to consider freezing my eggs and yesterday went to visit my GP registrar for advice. The GP registrar was by no means helpful, and had "no idea" how refer me to any nhs fertility service and said it was not a GP matter, however last week I attended a private fertility clinic open evening who said the journey for NHS patients should start with a referral from GP? I have already had an AMH blood test done which came back at 19.5 so I hope this does mean it to be a viable option for me to consider. I live under the West Hampshire CCG, and wonder if anyone may be able to give advice on freezing my eggs with the view to have IVF later down the line. GP registrar said he would call me back once he had looked online, but I thought (as with most things of this nature) to take matters into my own hands. After my appointment yesterday I was left feeling so sad and angry that there seemed to be a dead end before I have even started the process. I fought for 3 years previously for my gynae issues to be taken seriously, and it looks as though the fight for my fertility starts now.

Any advice or help would be appreciated, thank you all so much.

x

I went to the gp about fertility and dr referred me to a fertiliy clinic I would have presumed you would had have to do the same. They should be abit more helpful to point you in the right direction! maybe see another doctor?

That’s ridiculous. I’m in Hampshire too. It is your GP’s responsibility to refer you to gynae for fertility investigations. Perhaps he would not refer you if you would not be entitled to funding for IVF, which is why he’s under the impression it’s a private matter? But surely they should be able to do the basic blood tests for you at least.

I got a referral letter from my gp too to see the nhs fertility specialist. This person also works privately so the first appointment I went private to speed things up as endo investigation. I am so sorry you feel it’s all in your own hands. I’ve completely had the same feeling in my journey after months of looking for advice and info on next steps before seeing that specialist. Then luckily it was all straight forward with ivf. Don’t give up! Push your gp or perhaps find the fertility expert at your local hospital and ask your gp explicitly for a referral to see that person ? GOod luck!
