Having just completed my first egg collection and getting two high grade embryos, the doctor have asked if I want to do another EC again before we implant the embryos? I’m 40 so I don’t really care if I can have one child, so numbers aren’t the question... she informed me you have to wait three years before you can do another EC after a live birth.
I just want pop one in and she if I can get pregnant... I understand the stats... but it would be nice to try one embryo.
What have other people done? I’m still recovering from OHSS from EC , so I don’t think mentally I’m up for another hormonal month.

I would go ahead with the transfer if I were you, especially if you don't necessarily want multiple children. Try one transfer and if it doesn't work you still have time to collect again.
I’m 39 (40 this year) I had EC end of last year and only have 2 top grade embryos that have lasted out of the 23 collected. I would go with what you have, HFEA guideline say people of our age should only have one transferred at a time due to risk of multiple pregnancy - I don’t want to sound cynical but it sounds like your clinic is trying to get more money out of you! I had it with my clinic who when they discovered a polyp prior to EC stated they couldn’t do a transfer and shoved a price list under my nose and said they could remove it for £2500 - o said no I’ll go back to my GP to have it removed
Vegemite although I want a child I won’t be had over by people, my husband is very cynical of the private healthcare system. Everything they have suggested I did my own research and said what I knew back to them so already knew whether it was necessary for us to do or not - this particular consultant was not very quick thinking as I was already 2 steps ahead of him to the point where he tried to find the price on the price list and I pointed it out for him and said it was not necessary. So all I say is be on your toes, be clued up about everything
Basically she wanted me to know the risks that if we wanted another go but had made it to a birth-live or not... that you can’t do a collection after a birth for three years. As I’m 40 she wanted me to know that. People who have had a still or live birth go back and are disappointed when the womb/uterus has to wait to be harvested again.
I think if I was in your position I would be tempted to put them both back and see how you get on....Im 41! I would be thinking what if those two little ones took and I'd had done another collection. Best of luck with you decision!xx
You have to go with your heart. The Dr has given you an informed choice. Would be awful if she hadnt and you were left in the lurch. Wishing you wonderful outcome with your embies.
I think it's good that your doctor has given you all the information now so you can make an informed decision. I completely understand that we all would just love to get one chance at the moment and have 1 child but what about in a couple of years time, you will hopefully have one and you may feel differently about wanting another.
I’ve not heard of having to wait 3 years? I have a friend who did a cycle a year after her live birth, and that was a c section, I thought the current advice was a year and a half between births? Obviously if you breast feed, they won’t be able to collect eggs until you stop, but 3 years seems over cautious. My sister got pregnant after only 6 months, although it was natural and she didn’t breast feed.
At your age, my clinic would have advised put back 2. Is your clinic a Nhs unit? That might be the reason they are very cautious.

You are entitled to make your own decision to put two back due to your age. You are of course then to expect the possibility of multiple pregnancy which can come with it's own risks. Our clinic abroad always transfer 2 if possible and when we did NHS at the age of 38 they always advised 1 but said ultimately it was my decision. It's all extra money for the clinic if you do them separately....I'm always a bit cynical about the money making side of private clinics.xx
Don’t be bullied by them, it’s your body and your embies, you can do whatever you like with both of them! An option might be to freeze and try and bank some more in a couple of months after a break. Then if you have a good few embies, you can start transfers. As others have said, it’s all more money for the clinic, but at least you could potentially have your entire family waiting to be transferred at the end of the process. I would challenge why they say 3 year wait, when other clinics are happy to do EC a year after live birth
