Hi all, On EC I had 17 collected, 15 mature and injected (ICSI), 12 fertilised, 8 were abnormal due to too much female DNA, leaving 4. I ended up with 1 left on day 5 and had ET Friday so now I’m 2ww.
My question is around the 8 that were abnormal, the hospital said this is very rare, normally 1 or 2 max with ICSI. They said the 8 had 3 Pronuclei instead of the usual 2. Fingers crossed my 1 works, but if it doesn’t should I ask the clinic to look into this abnormal results for any future cycles? Has anyone else heard of this? And could this be why we can’t conceive naturally? Any thoughts on this would be very welcome. X

Firstly, congratulations because 12 mature eggs is fantastic! Try and hold on to that hope.
I also only had one blastocyst, but the clinic reassured me that it is still a 50% chance of pregnancy with a day 5 blastocyst. If your embryo made it to day 5 it means it has a good chance of developing. Did they give you a grade?
You should definitely ask the clinic for more information. They might offer genetic testing to get some answers? It is a simple but expensive blood test.
Just remember that one blastocyst is great. I wish you all the luck.
I would also recommend reading “It Starts with the Egg” - you can get it on Amazon xx
I just wanted to reply as I had a similar (although slightly different) confusion in my second round.
We only had 6 eggs collected and two of them fertilised ‘atypically’ with only one pronuclei so mine had too few where yours had too many!
I researched it all and asked my clinic about it at the follow up but was basically told although it’s rare, it can happen and is just one of those things! They didn’t seem worried as it hadn’t happened in our first round at all so was just unlucky. It feels that’s the way with a lot of this process, they just don’t really know.
I’m sorry I don’t have an answer, maybe your clinic will have more information, but I’ve just tried to accept it is something out of our control.
Fingers crossed your little embryo is getting cosy in there xx
