Is It Safe To Take Clomid Purchased Online?

incrediblesunshine profile image

Hi guys im 23 myself and partner have been TTC naturally for 4 years I'm diagnosed with PCOS and having tests done for potential endometriosis I'm considering ordering clomid online to see if this will help us conceive it's the last thing I wanted to do however I'm not in a position to fund fertility treatment or investigations privately and I do not feel like I'm being listened to by GP or the NHS any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks For Reading

Is clomid even available to buy online? It’s not something you can get without a prescription and needs to be prescribed by a gynaecologist or fertility clinic. If you have PCOS then you should be able to get this on the NHS, can you see another GP who might be a bit more understanding that can help you get it on the NHS? It’s just so much safer. Good luck x

thanks for your reply I think you can buy it from India online as they dont check prescriptions people then sell it online for a profit internationally I will ask my gp or maybe see another I just find that the NHS are reluctant to anything unless it is a medical emergency they are doing different blood work and A&E done a ultrasound that showed pcos but it took 3 and a half years for them to agree to investigate fertility issues help just hasn't been very forthcoming

best wishes and thanks again for your reply x

Agree with Sarah, it's not safe to buy prescription drugs online. Go back to your gp and ask for a referral to fertility investigations. I guess as you have the PCOS diagnosis that you might have had some done already; blood tests and ultrasound, also HSG to check your fallopian tubes.

Your partner also needs to get tested if he hasn't already. Don't take no for an answer, this can be a long journey so your age should not be a factor. Best of luck x

thanks for your reply they are doing blood work they haven't mentioned HSG what type of test is this please so I can ask for it my partner has been tested and everything is fine as I said to sarah they are doing investigations it's just that it's taken a long time and help hasn't been very forthcoming

best wishes x

I wouldn’t risk buying medication online you don’t know what’s in it or how it’s made and you could do more damage than good. I have PCOS and wasn’t offered clomid as I still ovulated.

Maybe seek another GP’s opinion (one that has an interest in gynae. It might say on the surgery website) or maybe just seek a private consultation about that if money is tight as they can then write to your GP if they think it’s necessary for you to be on it xx

thank you for your reply I thought they might be dangerous but I guess your willing to try anything when your desperate sounds like a good idea to write to them I'll definitely do that

best wishes

I agree wholeheartedly with what others have said. Definitely not safe buying prescription medication online. It needs to be prescribed by a fertility specialist.

I also have endometriosis & it was a struggle to get it diagnosed ( it took us nearly 6 years of TTC) I get your frustration with it our first fertility doctor was so dismissive. If you have any questions on laparoscopys feel free to ask me I had 3 within 13 months!

As you can only take prescribed clomid for 6 months I would wait until you have had the surgery for endometriosis investigations. I took 4 months of clomid in 2016 & it didn’t work which was heartbreaking. Once I had my endometriosis properly treated I fell the first cycle of taking clomid again & am 32 weeks pregnant. This is after a long 7 year struggle & an early miscarriage ( which made my endometriosis worse hence the other 2 surgeries that followed it )

I know it’s a very difficult journey but keep going you will get there & it will be worth it.

Wishing you the best & hope you get your BFP soon xoxo

thanks for your reply sorry to hear what you've been through that's exactly how I feel with my gp like he's dismissive as soon as I mentioned endometriosis he was shaking his head and insisting that we rule other things out first I also had a scan recently that showed pcos and I'm worried that he's now going to disregard endometriosis completely he is doing blood tests to check hormone levels etc but hasn't mentioned a laparoscopy as yet I'm just scared that endometriosis might have caused me some serious damage by the time they actually do the laparoscopy if that makes sense

take care and best wishes x

Push for the laparoscopy. Its something that they are somehow reluctant to do but is getting more and more attention. Never mind all the physical pain you have to endure every month, it may also mean you don't have to go down the ivf route if they get to this. Wishing you all the best xx

Thanks for your reply I definitely will do and yes the pain is terrible they dont seem to sympathise with that at all painkillers are their solution to everything do you know if they can refuse to do a laparoscopy?

best wishes

Your Gp needs to refer you to a fertility specialist. Sounds like he’s done all the tests he can ( once you’ve had the blood tests done) no offence to your Gp but you need to be in the hands of an expert.

The next test the specialist will want to do is to check your tubes are clear. You can have this done when having a laparoscopy it’s called a lap & dye. This can also check & possibly treat endometriosis at the same time.

Also your hubby will need to have a sperm analysis .

Based on all the tests & results your specialist will devise a treatment plan.

As you’ve been TTC for 4 years you should be referred straight to a fertility specialist & if he’s not willing to refer you can you see another doctor at the practice & gets referral?

My endometriosis is very bad to the point where I had to be referred to an endo surgeon but with the surgery & clomid I managed to conceive ( and I’m not young at 37!)

Endometriosis can only be diagnosed with a laparoscopy ( no scans ever showed mine)

Good luck you can do this ❤️xoxo

Hi! Your GP needs to check (and can do that on NHS) if you ovulate at all as not all of us pcos ones do regularily. This involves blood work on different cycle days. If you do not ovulate, Clomid can help you BUT when you are not properly checked and scanned for the amount of follicles you make this can be tricky as pcos makes a lot of eggs. Dependent on how severe and anovulatory your pcos is you can try lifestyle changes to encourage ovulation. Some GPs prescribe Metformin (paid privately) to help with ovulation. You can definitely get the tubes and your partner's sperm count and motility checked on NHS. I know it is such a pain with finances.... We are not funded as well and I save what I can for my iui rounds and asked my parents for money for the donor sperm (even if they do not know it is for that and just know about fertility treatment). Good luck!

Thanks for your reply I didn't know they could check that on the NHS so will definitely raise that with my gp do you know what they would do to check the fallopian tubes? financially private treatment is something we just cant afford it does get me down I'm just desperate to get the right treatment or medication so we can have half a chance at trying

Best wishes

The tube test is one they do where they put dye in and you slosh it around whilst they check if your tubes are blocked. It will be the fertility (nhs) clinic who would do that. It is actually a bit of a treatment in itself and some people find they fall pregnant following this test. X

I see you have already been offered some sound advice on here so I would only re reiterating what has already been said. However, please don't buy drugs online! You will never be sure of their composition so they could potentially be dangerous. I get that you are desperate. Honestly I know that feeling very well! If you are not happy with your GP then you can either ask to see another GP or change your surgery if that's an option. Be persistent. Don't leave the appointment until you get a referral to a fertility specialist. As you have been trying for so long, I would be surprised if they didn't relent and refer you on. There are only so many tests that a GP can/will do so you really need to see an expert for further investigations. You will get there I promise. Good luck. x

I am in the exact same boat. Drs just fobbing me off meanwhile, my hormones are getting more out of balance making pregnancy impossible!😓

I totally get how frustrating it is i feel exactly the same hun it's bad that so many women feel like their not being listened to and it doesn't surprise me that so many feel that their best chance of success is to order medications online

big hugs drop me a message if u need someone to talk to

take care xxx
