Referred to fertility

Hi I’m hoping to get some support and to support others here, finding it difficult with very little support resources and no local groups to go to.

I have been trying for first baby for nearly two and half years, I am ovulating however husbands morphology is a little low at 2.5% (was 2%) on first test 6 months ago.

We have just been referred to fertility a week ago and wondering how long I should expect to get a letter and what will happen next? GP has been very supportive and wanted to refer a year ago. GP seems to think we will get IVF however my bmi is currently 30 so I know I need to work on that.

Thank you anyone that is reading, I am really struggling x

Hi Bluebird

Sorry to hear you're struggling. We're all here to support each other so I hope this forum helps.

Have you had many tests yet? From our perspective, hubby has had 3 sperm tests,I have had ovulation tests, prolactin bloods, amh bloods, scan of uterus and ovaries and I have a hycosy on 23rd April. My understanding is that after that we then go back to our local fertility doctor who will hopefully then refer us to the fertility clinic for ivf. We've been trying over 2years.

I think this journey is such a rollercoaster but I've found joining this forum has helped so so much so I'm hoping it will help you too.

Lots of love and hugs x one day at a time xx

Hi Lots thanks so much for your reply. I have had some tests, several sperm tests and bloods for me, I had a lap a few years ago so GP said I shouldn’t need anymore tests so just waiting for fertility to contact me now, we will see. Good luck for your hycosy, sending love!!

Your absolutely right, one day at a time and I feel better already after joining here, thank you so much xx

It’s not an easy journey is it! There are lots of supportive people here and it’s important to try not to feel alone.

Good that your GP has now referred you to the fertility clinic. We only had to wait a couple of weeks for an appointment letter but I guess that may depend on where you live re waiting times. How have you been coping with the emotional side of everything? And how has your relationship been holding up?

In terms of BMI mine was around 32 I think. It was something the clinic was strict about, being under 30. But after I was weighed once I wasn’t weighed again.

Here anytime you want to message

Hi Leesara thank you so much! Couple of weeks sounds like a good time frame but yes I guess it depends on location. Emotionally I have been okay up until recently I do meditation and other things to try and help but I do have bad days and cry a lot :(, marriage is holding up really well actually, hubby just says be positive it will be okay, how are things with you??

How much weight did you have to lose then? Where abouts are you on your journey? Thank you so much again!

Oh would also echo your comment about a lack of local support groups options x

Hey, just wanted to refer to the BMI. I was 30 and have worked really hard to get it down to 25. There aren’t many things you can control in IVF but that is one thing you can. I found eating healthily and exercising has made me feel mentally a lot stronger through the whole process. Having said that, don’t give yourself a hard time.

Thank you redpixie, well done on getting it down, fantastic! I have already lost a stone so confident I can get it down again and like you say quite rightly it can only make us feel better can’t it. Thank you :)
