Evaluating treatment options abroad...

Hi there lovely people

Back again to pick brains and search for some reassurance! This page offers so much strength and support through this whole cr@ppy journey!

I'm currently in the middle of my two week wait after my 3rd embryo transfer (first one fresh, second two frozen). This is our final NHS round and while I have utmost respect for the NHS and what a wonderful institution it is, I feel that I need to prepare for going down the private route as a way of keeping my sanity and ensuring I have a coping plan in place if we get another dreaded BFN this time around. We were talked out of having any additional tests when I went back to the consultant in January although she did rerun all my bloods and everything was looking perfect. I do feel that while the nurses and our most recent consultant have been mostly amazing, it is in some ways a "one size fits all" approach and they are reluctant to support any additional treatments.

I suppose my question is - who has had treatment in Athens and would be prepared to offer feedback or recommendations? I understand this would need to be done by a private message. My husband is half Greek and we are going over there for a couple of weeks at Easter to spend time with family so I would like to investigate options in Athens for further tests and treatment if needed. We don't have infinite resources but we still have a few frozen blastocysts left so I would love to give them the best shot they have x

Thanks in advance for any help or support anyone can give. I understand that I need to stay positive while I am in the two week wait but I think having a plan of attack in place will help with my sanity this week!

xxx

I've had treatment in Athens. I really think they are super thorough, professional & couldn't ask for anymore really.....in my opinion it's s world away from the NHS.....not saying we had bad care but it's as you said the one size fits all approach. However, we are doing donor eggs so it's a bit different. Feel free to PM me or ask any questions. Hopegully you won't need it...best of luck for your 2ww!xx

Hi there, sorry to hear about your infertility struggle... it sometime takes more than the usual time for some women so don't be daunted by the late. About assisted reproductive procedures abroad... I have been doing some digging on it considering my own case and might give you some tips. Firstly, all procedures to an overseas clinic are like the PP said one shoe that fits all. So, instead of pinpointing a country maybe you can list down your criteria and then decide on what you want.

After you're done choosing based on the clinical aid and success rate relevant to your case, list down the legal liabilities of a country. That's a very important aspect to understand which country suits you the best. Next accessibility and additional benefits. Some clinics help you with multiple tries, some with legal assistance for the paperwork some other things.... consider what you need most. Last but not least, read the reviews very very carefully and try find reviews on other forums about the clinic. I know a couple who managed to get to a certain clinic in East EU who literally robbed them with additional charges. So beware. Wish you all the best for being able to get pregnant soon!
