If in the initial sperm tests - motility etc etc comes back normal, could there still be something wrong with the sperm that those tests don’t pick up on?

Yes you can, the sperm comet test which goes further. And you can look at genetics. Ask your clinic about this. Xx

Yes, there can be something. However, maybe everything is actually just fine. Only a doctor could explain. I hope things get better for you. Good luck! Stay strong and positive. The doctor you are visiting I hope is experienced in this matter. Sending baby dust your way.

Thank you.

I suppose it’s the not knowing really, makes you question everything. Xx

Fragmentation doesn’t show up on a regular sperm analysis, neither does chromosomes extras or deletions

We’re planning on fragmentation testing alongside the basic analysis after 90 days on a sperm diet/supplement improvement programme

Thanks I think it’s worth us looking into it. I’ve had all the tests, laparoscopy the lot and I’m ok. I do have a bit of mild endo and one tube is a bit slow but there’s no reason why I can’t get pregnant.

I can’t work out what else it could be other than jus sperm needs looking at again x

Unfortunately yes there can be other problems the standard SPerm analysis doesn't pick up on. My husband was initially told his sperm was normal. His motility was a bit lower than normal but had a normal count and his morphology was 3% rather than 4 but the Drs weren't worried about.

We had poor fertilisation after our first IVF which prompted further tests. We had DNA fragmentation test and my husbands sperm was checked for plc Zeta. We found he had low amounts of plc Zeta (a protein needed to fertilise the egg).

We now have IVF with AOA (artificial oocyte activation) and icsi.

Xx

Thanks for this, my husbands sperm looks completely normal on the analysis too.

I honestly can’t work out what is wrong with ttc, I’ve got an FET next month but the embryo was icsi (as was part of the treatment) my last attempt ended in two blighted ovum’s.

I’ve had all the tests: a lap; one tube is a bit slow but other than that fine.

My amh is good, I ovulate - I’m just thinking perhaps we should take a better look at him. I might do per previous comment, put him on a sperm improvement diet too. See if that works x

I would highly recommend the sperm DNA fragmentation test. My husband takes condensyl and we eat lots of anti oxidants. X

I’ll look into it thank you this has been really helpful.

Google doesn’t answer all these queries - I end up with more questions xx

I know this post is a few months old but just wanted to say there is absolutely more that can be tested. We were told my hubby’s sperm were excellent and there was nothing more to test at a well known and respected London hospital. Fast forward to our initial visit with an IVF clinic and we found he had 100% antisperm antibodies, so low to no chance of conceiving naturally! We then did the DNA fragmentation test last year and it came back high, with a diagnosis of male infertility. We just had another test done showing high levels of oxidative damage. Definitely look further into it if there’s nothing obvious on your side, we were so let down and had precious time wasted as a result.
