Melatonin supplement??

Anyone going through or who has gone through IVF using melatonin supps?

I’m just reading about it in “it starts with the egg”.

Thing that concerns me is that is says you shouldn’t use when conceiving naturally as it can disrupt hormones so can disrupt ovulation timing but ok to use with IVF as your cycle is artificially controlled - I’m having short protocol so my period isn’t being controlled. I’m guessing my ovulation is controlled? So wondering if using the melatonin will disrupt the medication that stops me ovulating?

Hi Emmyeve, I’m taking melatonin 3mg at night and will continue until my next round. It’s meant to be very beneficial (I read that book too 😊) Usually with IVF you’ll be on medication that will stop you ovulating, then you’ll take a timed trigger shot and your “ovulation” is basically egg retrieval. So yes, ovulation is controlled! I would still check any supplements etc with your clinic though - only they can advise re the specific meds you’ll be taking. It will make you feel better about it too if you’re on the same page. Good luck!

Thank you for your response. Are you continuing to take it or are you breaking so that your period starts again? It’s just it reads as if it will disrupt your natural cycle and obviously the clinic won’t start again until AF arrives I assume? X

Hmm well it didn’t stop my last period from arriving, though I understand the concern re timing - I think they are usually able to adjust things by a few days, so unless it’s very late I don’t think it should be an issue. You could ask their thoughts on it though and see what they suggest. I don’t think it should stop a period though xx
