Any advice?

I hope no one minds me posting but it’s playing on my mind and you guys are so great with advice.

We were very fortunate to get a bfp last week and are praying it sticks this time.

For Christmas I have been given a gel nail appointment which has been booked for next week for ages. It’s for gel nails and now I’m really worrying it might not be a good thing to do. Any advice or experience?

Thank you so much xxx

A quick google search revealed this;

Is it safe to have gel nails applied during pregnancy?

Expert Answer

The BabyCentre editorial team

Our panel of health writers

“It is safe to wear gel nails while you are pregnant, so long as you take precautions when having them applied and removed.

Gel nails are applied as a gel or liquid to the nail. They are set using an ultraviolet (UV) lamp, or by brushing or spraying a curing chemical over the top of the gel.

The main chemicals in gel nails are methacrylate monomers. There are many types of methacrylate monomers, most of which are perfectly safe to use. However, one type called methyl methacrylate monomer (MMA) should not be used. It is best to avoid MMA whether you are pregnant or not.

MMA can irritate your skin, eyes and lungs, and can cause allergic reactions. It has been banned in many states in the US but it is currently still available in the UK, although it has been largely replaced.

However, some budget nail bars still use gel nails containing MMA because it is cheaper than safer alternatives. If you want to have gel nails applied, make sure you go to a reputable salon. Check with the salon exactly which chemicals are used. Salon staff should be happy to tell you about their products.”

Hope this helps xx

Thank you, there is a bit of conflicting advice on there too. I’m thinking I’m going to postpone for now. I’m such a worrier at the moment.

How are you getting along? xxx

It's better not to get it done. Mainly because there are conflicting opinions. Self-doubt is an indicator as well. Babies health is more important. Especially since these are your early weeks it's very important to take even more care. Good luck to you. Sending baby dust your way. I hope things go smoothly.
