Fertility Tests

Just returned from my Doctors appointment. Blood tests say that i ovulate. Does this mean I definitely do?!

Next step is an ultrasound so im waiting for the date for that.

What happens after that?

Can I ovulate and still never get pregnant? Confused. Xx

I was told that blood tests are the only way to confirm Ovulation. I ovulate like clockwork but still haven’t got pregnant after 2 years TTC. There can be other things going on and even if you do ovulate chances of getting pregnant each month are actually quite low (so many factors have an influence).

My first ultrasound looked at my follicles to see how many I have. Have you had your AMH tested? It’s worth doing as it gives you an idea of your egg reserves.

Whats an AMH test? He basically said if the ultrasound is ok, i would need to see a fertility specialist, with my partner, but my partner is fine he has a child.

It’s crazyhow you can ovulate but not get pregnant. Im assuming clomid won’t help if I already ovulate 😖

AMH is just a blood test. My partner has children as well but things can change so it’s best to get checked, helps to rule things out.

I was put on clomid even though I didn’t need it and it didn’t do anything. I’m sure it’s helped others. All it did for me was thin my lining...

I was tested for ovulation, then my AMH. Both good. Then I had a HCG test and that’s when I found out both my Fallopian tubes are blocked. There can be so many different reasons stopping pregnancy. It would be good to get reverted to the fertility department next by your GP and then they will know the right and next steps to do for you. Good luck xxx

Hopefully my ultrasound will be ok. I think that looks at the fallopian tubes etc. How long have you been ttc? Xx

I had an ultrasound - that showed no cysts etc but it can’t tell how your tubes inside are x

Oh right, so i can try and push for that test after the ultrasound? Xx

I’ve been TTC for five years sadly. I found out I can’t get pregnant 2 years ago. I’ve had to have 2 surgeries before starting ivf. Hopefully you won’t be anywhere near as complicated as me xxx

Wow thats a long journey. Xx

Are you having IVF now? Xx

Scarlett13 in reply toH0pe2

Yes I’ve had 4 failed transfers from 2 nhs funded cycles. I’ve paid for a third round, I’m on the 2 week wait with 2 embryos on board and 5 in the freezer x

I too ovulate but had a hsg which discovered bilateral blocked fallopian tubes, don't know why. Currently waiting for a laparoscopy to determine cause and possibly treat. If unsuccessful then we have to fund ivf ourselves

Good luck! My blockage was caused by an infection following a cone biopsy to remove abnormal cells. The laparoscopy also discovered that my cervix had been nearly entirely removed by the cone biopsy! So I’ve had c section surgery too to put a stitch in place incase I do get pregnant x

Did they treat ur blocked tubes?

Scarlett13 profile image
Scarlett13 in reply toCharlieW1985

No they were too damaged. They clipped them shut so no fluids from inside them interfere with any embryos in my womb from ivf x

Some people can have their tubes flushed and unblocked x

CharlieW1985 profile image
CharlieW1985 in reply toScarlett13

Fingers crossed they can flush them, blockage is at proximal end so hoping it's not too complicated xx

How come you have to fund yourself? Im dreading having all these test xx

My husband already has 2 children from previous marriage... So not entitled to NHS funded ivf 🙁

I think it is alredy a good start to know you are ovulating. However, unfortunately there are loads of other things that can go wrong. As you said, I think Clomid would not do any good. I also think it would be good to have your partner tested, these things can drastically change in both directions over time.

I would also try to push for a HSG to see if there are any blockages.

Thats really bad, I think that "unexplained infertility" is the worst, when you know what is your problem, you can at least so something.

Good luck! xx

I’ve seen so many good stories for clomid i was kind of

Hoping that would work for me. My scan isn’t until January 😩

From my point of view be happy that ypu dont need to take Clomid! This is the worst drug you could ever get. I know what I am talking about.

I totally understand, just waiting for something to happen is really hard. I hope you can get some relaxing days over Christmas.

I came to the point to leave this really bad year behind and start with new hope next year :) At least for my mind it really helped me to take some action and start taking some fertility boosting supplements.

That is a good way to look at it. Im going to try and be positive, it’s just really hard sometimes. What supplements are you taking? Xx

Yeah....Such a rollercoaster from being super excited and hopeful to being completely devastated sometimes withing hours and back again..... I feel like an adolescent experiencing the first hormonal changes...

Oh I majorly take Inositol for egg quality (when I happen to have one they seem really good quality) and Maca and also pregnacare for folic acid. And then some other things to stay healthy in general (probably listing all of it is a bit ridiculous in public, hahaha!)
