Clomid didn’t work second cycle?

Hi guys,

Just wondered if there was many of you out there that this has happened to?

My first cycle of clomid went great, all my progesterone numbers where high(58 on day 21) and it showed I ovulated I just didn’t fall pregnant. But this second cycle I got my results back and it showed my numbers were so low (17 on day 21)I couldn’t have ovulated! Has this happened to anyone before? The clinic are a bit worried so keeping me on 50mg for the third cycle then reviewing my results all together.

Thanks xx

I didn’t ovulate on any clomid cycles 50 or 100 mg so yes it can happen

It may well be that you may have ovulated early /later also. Sometimes we can have short luteal phases. Did you bleed at the same time after each cycle?

If you have PcOS try focusing on controlling your insulin resistance with diet and exercise and you may want to try inositol (with folate) as many clinics suggest that it helps with detoxification hormonal imbalance egg quality and regular cycles and ovulation.

It’s a supplement not medication and is naturally found in the body anyway

Good luck

Ahh thanks so much for this message I’ll look at those supplements! And I know I’ve got a few pcos diet books on the go at the min!

This second cycle my period came 1 week late so I was hoping they maybe missed my ovulation but my days 21,28 and 35 bloods were all so low they weren’t positive I had ovulated. Just with it working the first month then not it’s got me a bit worried!

Unfortunately our bodies don’t always go to plan and it could have been a number of things- good you responded the first time.

At least your consultant is on top of it!

Also have they checked your ovaries and tubes? You can ovulate from either ovary- so if there is a problem with one ovary one month you may not ovulate. It could be that the other ovary released the egg thefirst time.

Again quite common so worth asking

I know that’s the thing, so I’m hoping it was maybe just one of those things second cycle! And yes I’ve had a HSG test done in August and everything was clear, also go my ovaries checked on a scan in September time and the consultant said they looked great. So hopefully we have better luck this month! Thanks so much for your message❤️🤞🏼Xx

Hi, just a small comment (really not meant in a bad way!) but I need to say it. You should not assume that everyone having PCOS should be trying this particular thing. I have PCOS, my BMI is 20, I am not diabetic or have any insulin problem or any kind of sign of a metabolic syndrome. My testosterone is just too high and I have countless follicles on my ovaries and anovulation. However, i totally agree that looking into diet (which I nevertheless also do) never harms.

Hi,

unfortunately this can happen and is even quite normal. The response to clomid is completely variable from month to month. It might well be that next month your body responds again and you will be pregnant.

I had 8 months of Clomid from 50 to 150 mg and I ovulated twice. The first time on 100mg after 3 failed 50 cycles and then the first on 150mg after 100 did not seem to continously work. But even on 150 it only worked once.

I think It is ok to leave you on 50 for another month, so many things are playing a role in this.

What I really liked about Clomid is that you start taking it so early, when you are still frustrated about your AF you already start taking it again giving hope!

Good luck, there is still hope especially when your first cycle went really well!

Thanks so much! I know I like that with clomid as soon as AF is here you think, okay on to the next cycle I go, and keep the positivity going!

It’s so frustrating more than anything that I had to do a bit of digging with my clinic to find out it hadn’t worked second round but I have a feeling they just didn’t want to worry me and wanted to monitor me for this month to see how it goes! I’m feeling more positive today. Also I saw your comment above, I’m looking into diet books more to make myself a bit healthier, the consultant said to me he’s fine with my weight because I’m not overweight just need to keep my body healthy! My insulin levels are usually okay too so he doesn’t think that’s an issue it’s just my other hormone imbalances, acne and lack of periods regular that got me my diagnosis.

Thanks so much for your kind words xx
