Swollen / Potentially blocked Fallopian tube.

Hi ladies,

I’ve recently had a laparoscopy and my consultant found a couple of things, one of which happens to be a swollen / potentially blocked Fallopian tube..

Can anyone relate to this in any way? Or shed any light on what should happen next? or how this can be put right?

Will it effect my fertility?

x

Hi I had the same thing. Was told I may have to remove my tube as it be safer and chances will be high. I did not want that as if I did then my chance of conceiving naturally will be zero. I done a bit of research and done the castor oil pack which I made myself. [google it) I belive this helped me.

When I went for my ivf the concultant told me if they could see fluid on the scan then I will have to remove my tube. Thank god that won’t the case.

My ivf treatment worked first time and then now have a princess age 12 weeks❤️🎀

I wish you the best an if you have any more questions I’m happy to help with advice

I had a lap in Oct 2015 and doctor found that one tube was blocked and the other was partially blocked with a hole in it! The doctor tried to clear the tubes and I was told to try and conceive naturally for 6 months, tried for 6 months and nothing happened so we were referred for Ivf.

I had some further tests and scans before starting treatment. When treatment started in Feb 2018 fluid was found in both of my tubes and I had to do a freeze all cycle until I had another lap in May. Before the lap I was asked and advised that it maybe be a better option to clip both tubes as any fluid is toxic to embryos and stops them from implanting. I had not gotten pregnant naturally in the 5 years of trying so I agreed that clipping tubes would be best way forward. So in May both tubes were clipped.

Mine was a rather bad case as tubes were severely blocked and damaged.

My friend had fluid in one of her tubes in Feb this year so she had a lap in April, the fluid had gone, all was ok and No further action was necessary.

Your consultant will be beds placed to answer any questions as each case is different.

Good luck. Xx

I had a blocked tube and was told it wouldn’t affect my chances of conceiving as I still had one tube working. I opted to have it unblocked because I wanted to do everything I could to help have a baby. They managed to clear the blockage really easily so now both my tubes are working.

I’m not sure what a swollen tube means but I would speak to your consultant and find out what your options are. X x

Thank you for your reply. I’ve had my letter come through today confirming a blockage, how did they unblock yours? Was it through surgery? x

Yeah I had surgery, the consultant advised me that I didn’t need it but I wanted to for my own peace of mind. Luckily my tube wasn’t hard to unblock and was all over pretty quickly. Xx

Laparoscopy ?

At least you know now that they’re both working 😊 x

Yeah they went in through my belly button and also another incision by my hip, didn’t hurt afterwards at all xx

Ok, I’m currently still healing from my lap a few weeks ago. But I’m glad it all worked for you x

I had a tube removed because of an ectopic pregnancy and I've been told that the other was blocked on the ovary end and full of fluids (hydrosalpinx). They tried to open it but after one week was again swollen. I have done some research, and it seems that the fluid is embryotoxic (hindering implantation). Therefore, I have decided to clip it (other option would be to remove that as well). Being close it would not help conception anyway. I am now waiting for IVF.

If your other tube is working, perhaps is worth discussing with your consultant whether the blocked/swollen tube should be clipped/removed?

Thank you for your reply. Yes I’ve read an awful lot about it all and have managed to get an appointment now with my consultant for next month.. I’ll see how it goes... x

I had a blocked left fallopian tube which they thought was a hydrosalpinx and as the fluid was potentially toxic to a pregnancy, I chose to have the tube clipped. I had the surgery in December and am now 22 weeks pregnant after my third embryo transfer. You could have a hysterosalpingogram done to have a look what’s going on in your tubes xxx

Hi Sarah! Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. :) did you have a hysterosalpingogram? Did it hurt? So have you had to have IVF treatment? sorry so many questions! So happy to hear your lovely news! I hope things are going well for you X

Thank you! I was booked in just to have a hysterosalpingogram but then they found that an endometrioma on my left ovary had grown so as I needed a laparoscopy to remove that they looked at the patency of my tubes and clipped the left one whilst they were in there. I was already having ivf treatment but not due to the blocked tube, I had already been having ivf for 8 years for stage 4 endometriosis xxx

in reply toSarahlou01

Ah okay. I wish they’d have done something about this hydrosalpinx whilst I was having my lap too, but my consultant didn’t seem overly worried about it and said after my surgery that I only need one tube so unless I was struggling to conceive it wouldn’t be until then that I’d need to see a fertility specialist :/ I’m glad things have worked out for you after 8 years!! Xx

Thank you, it’s been a long journey! I know, it’s a shame they didn’t just sort it for you whilst you were under anaesthetic. Just to reassure you, my auntie lost a fallopian tube due to an ectopic pregnancy and went on to conceive 2 babies naturally without any fertility treatment xxx

Thank you so much xx
