Moving during NHS IVF treatment - transfer over?

If you moved during your NHS funded IVF treatment can you easily transfer to a different CGC/clinic/hospital to continue it (depending on what the new CGC offer d of course)? Or would you just lose what you have then potentially not get anymore with the new one?

Does anyone have any experience of this? I know the system can be really cruel when it comes to IVF (as in some places not even being able to get it so I can imagine it being just as bad if you moved).

Hi Esb. You need to clarify with the two CCGs so you are clear what has been agreed with them both. Good luck. Diane

I thought it was related to your GP address rather than your home address, if that is the case, it wouldn’t affect your treatment apart from you having to travel further. My treatment wasn’t the closest to my home as I have chosen to stay with my long-standing GP. Best of luck x

Ah right, but what if you are maybe moving an hour and a bit away (so out of the CGC and into a different region...)? x

I was an hour and a half away and I didn’t move, I was there already. I lived in a different CGC than the one I had treatment in. I could have chosen my local one but purposely chose another for various reasons. Maybe speak with your clinic or GP and see what they say. Best of luck x

My GP told me if we moved then we would have to start the who process again even though we were staying within that CCG but would come under a different GP practice. As we had already done all the tests and were just waiting for the referral to our chosen clinic we just put a post redirect to our new address and didn't change doctor's or update our address with them until after we had finished treatment. As every CCG has different criteria I would suggest looking up the criteria for the area you are planning on moving to and maybe ask your clinic if you were to move if they would still continue your treatment. Good luck x

I had a bit of a nightmare with this. I moved between two CCG’s at the start of my treatment - I’d had all my preliminary tests done and my funding was applied for and then I moved house…when my funding came in, I couldn’t use my original clinic as the new CCG wouldn’t allow me and wouldn’t release the funds. I was devastated as had already chosen my clinic and was ready to start, it really delayed things - I had no idea moving house would impact it. So make sure you check with both before you move xxxx

We were looking to move house between finishing OI and starting our IVF. When I mentioned it to our clinic the dr said to be careful changing CCG’s mid treatment as the new one may have a requirement that you’ve lived there a full year before they’ll agree your funding.

She also said that if we remained registered with our GP and didn’t tell them then they would never know!
