Update on the "follow up"

So... I've had to agree to another test. But one for the hubby. Apparently he needs to do the test that I've done for all the major diseases like HIV and hepatitis which is okay? But it'd need to be done within 3 months of actually having the procedure? Is this normal? Do I have to wait another three months 😳🤔

Advice please?❤️

Hi Danni, have they given you an indication of timescales then? My clinic asked for these tests from both me & OH but then gave us an appointment for consultation where they arranged meds and dates of treatment (they actually said we didn't need to have the results for that meeting but needed to send them through before I started on the meds). As you seem to have been messed around a lot I'd find this out before arranging tests etc. Some tests last 6 months, some only last 3 months - can't remember which ones though. Make sure your clinic provide you with info so you down have to waste time doing the tests again xxx

Agreed with above. All those tests usually will have to have been done within the last year - however as this is your first cycle that is probably why they are asking for within 3 months.

Hopefully they will do as suggested by Lilli79 and schedule everything for you so that timings work.

Xx

Yeah, I don't think they specified any expiry for our first nhs cycle, but probably because they arranged them for us. But our 2nd (private) cycle they gave us a letter for the tests which specified expiry dates, as we had to arrange ourselves - thankfully our gp did them for free. I think STI tests (chlamydia, HIV etc) have quite short timescales whereas think things like rubella are a lot longer (like 6 months + ?). I can't remember exactly xx

Lillie I'd rang up the fertility clinic you're with who had explained more to me in five minutes than I have had explained in three months! I've booked in a consultation with them for September- 150 which includes sperm analysis. Akande was 350 for consultation and 250 for advanced sperm analysis...... 🤷🏼‍♀️

I read your messages to my partner in the car who then said to go with where you'd went. And they said they'd start treatment depending on my cycle it could even be that day! So you've helped me so much! I've not bothered to book in with his bloods at that place. I'd just sent an email to the manager who emailed half hour ago to check how the appointment went after my complaint last week. The place you went to said he doesn't need to do it until it's near the time to egg collection ❤️😁

Rings true to me, I actually found the old bloods request from the spire and it gave no info at all - useless!! Have you booked in at an open day at BFC? It's well worth going to if you can. I mostly dealt with Hannah, she was lovely & very knowledgeable. Also I'd ask about their finance packages - you'd probably get a good deal for your age, possibly a refund if it doesn't work. I am 38 so didn't get a refund package, but currently 35 weeks with 2 👶👶 so quite happy with the cost & service!! 💕

Also, see if you can get an appointment for bloods with your gp. It all depends on how nice they are, whether they agree or not! We managed to get ours for free, otherwise I think they cost a couple of hundred ££s xx

I had my bloods done by the gp already so I will send those if I can! No after speaking to the receptionist on the phone it's safe to say it is the place to go to! Very informative and absolutely brilliant. Better service for a better price! 💋Soooo happy for you that you're pregnant that's so exciting and so close oh my god. How has it been so far? What does carrying two twins feel like ❤️Xxx

That's good to hear Danni, yes I think it is much cheaper there. All in all we paid about £7500 for a multi cycle treatment, along with meds which were about £1700 but obviously if we just had of paid for a single cycle I think it would cost about £4k (for icsi). Your husband will hopefully be ok with it as well as its not very hospital like there. Pregnancy has been absolutely fine - only a few twinges & a bit of worrisome bleeding at 13 weeks, but otherwise fine. They are bigger at the moment than they should be but I'm really surprised how little my bump is (because I'm not a very little person!!). Most people are surprised I've got twins in there 😁 I have placenta previa which is common with twins so have to have a c section, which is disappointing but at least (hopefully) it means everything will be planned. Hope everything goes well with the new clinic xxx

Yes that's normal procedure Dani! I dont think it means you have to wait another 3 months, just means that they arent to be any older than 3 months old so technically once the results are through then you should be good to go!xx

Hi DanniJones, this is normal procedure (or at least it was for us). Our clinic insisted on having up to date bloods from both of us (within three months) in order to proceed with treatment. As a result they will just notify you when they expire or if they are due to expire during your planned cycle (usually at your planning appointment), so that you can book them in advance. Nothing to worry about. All the best of luck.

I'm pretty sure its a legal requirement to have HIV and Hep C within three months of a cycle. Its normally done a the nurse planning appointment. Just had to have a second lot done for my second round. First failed in May. The results come back really quick and doesn't delay anything. Good luck.

🙈the Doctor explained it very vaguely and looked concerned while telling me so I assumed it was something to do with the procedure. That said when I rang up the fertility ward twice to get it booked no one answered so that was the last straw for me. The place was slow and very all over the place so I booked in with another clinic who explained everything in detail with the process, the tests they would want etc and they weren't patronising with my questions. We are very well informed! I even got a big package of papers and information through this morning considering I'd only booked yesterday. The only letters I'd got from the other place were invoices 🤔

Many thanks for your reply x
