Hi everyone, I’m preparing for the next round of IVF and my new clinic wants me to have 3D saline scan done. I’m booked for next Friday. If any of you had it done, would you please share your experience? Is it painful?
3D saline scan: Hi everyone, I’m... - Fertility Network UK
3D saline scan
Hi Kari55. A form of hysterogram (womb x-ray), also known as an “Aqua Scan”, is a simple outpatient ultrasound procedure that looks at the cavity of the womb, and the endometrium (the lining of the womb). It is usually done in the usual ultrasound scan room and no sedation is needed but you could have a simple analgesia, such as paracetamol an hour before the procedure if you prefer. A speculum is inserted in the vagina to see the neck of the womb (like in a smear test). The neck of the womb (cervix) is cleaned and then a small soft catheter is passed gently through the cervix into the cavity of the womb. Warm saline (salt water) is passed through the catheter whilst an internal scan looks at the lining of the womb.
3D saline sonography can diagnose polyps and fibroids in the womb, an abnormally shaped uterus, scarring, and any malformations. It’s quite straightforward, so I wouldn’t worry about having it done, apart from having a soggy bottom afterwards! Diane
Replying to myself in case someone finds it useful. The scan was a bit painful even though I took painkillers before. It was quite similar as HSG. I was given antibiotics to prevent any infection.
