Did you have to become a blood donor just to find out what blood group you are to be matched with a donor? Going to give blood tonight and slightly nervous by the amount of emails and letters i keep receiving from them asking me how to prepare etc! Plus my partner has a phobia of blood and needles so cant come in with me! X
For those going for DE...: Did you have... - Fertility Network UK

Good luck with the blood donation 👍 I didn’t match blood group when selecting an egg donor x
I used my blood donor card to prove my blood type. You could try asking your GP to do it but may cost or they might refuse. Giving blood is actually not that bad at all so please dont be nervous, so long as you dont go on an empty stomach and rest afterwards with a juice/tea/coffee and a biscuit then you will be just fine....the staff will look after you well being a newbie and just let them know you're nervous! Very commendable thing to do too, good luck!!xx
They found my blood type out at the clinic, think some private clinics over here will also do it but don't know what the cost is, all the best X
Thankyou! Im just filling out the blood questionnaire and its asked if i have had IVF since 1980?! Does this mean i cant give blood? My GP wont do anything i have asked them x
I just had a blood test to find out xxxx good luck xxx
The clinic will usually test your blood group for you. Btw you don't need to be the same blood group as your egg donor. When we chose our donor it was one of the criteria you could choose, if you particularly wanted a child to have the same blood group as you (i.e. if you weren't planning to tell them they were result of DE). I asked the nurse whether the blood group had to be the same and she said no.
