Well, that’s it, our first injection all done and dusted and nowhere near as scary as I thought it might be 😊
I was told to take my meds between 6am and 8am so I set my alarm for 7am just because I like balance. When I say I set my alarm, I set one on my phone, one on a radio alarm clock and I made my boyfriend set his too just to be on the safe side (I think he was secretly pleased about that because it meant he got to try it out on his new smart watch, bless him).
Anyway, the alarms were a total waste of time because we were both wide awake at about 6am giddily counting down the minutes until we could go down and make a start. As soon as it hit 7am we were both up, dressing gowns on, out of our bedroom and down the stairs. It was like Christmas morning as we ran to the tree (fridge) to unwrap our presents (hypodermic needles)...Happy Birthday Jesus!
I re-read the instructions for the millionth time while my boyfriend put the kettle on (everything is more manageable with a cup of tea eh? Decaf, obvs) and then we were good to go. I’m on Menopur to begin with and had to mix it myself which was really straightforward (having said that I did manage to stab myself in the finger with the mixing needle as I was taking the lid off) and also actually quite fun (I felt like an evil villain in an old film, I should have snapped a pair of surgical gloves on beforehand).
Once everything was mixed, drawn up and I’d checked and double checked the dosage it was finally time to inject 😬
I hadn’t felt nervous at all and still didn’t this morning but there’s just something fundamentally wrong with inflicting pain on yourself isn’t there?! Your brain just won’t let you do it?!
Me: Ok, I’m ready.
Boyfriend: Ok baby.
Me: (doesn’t inject)....Right, I’m just going to do it
Boyfriend: Yeah, just go for it darling!
Me: (doesn’t inject)....I’ll definitely do it this time.
Boyfriend: You’ll be fine, I promise.
Me: (doesn’t inject)...Ok, count down for me.
Boyfriend: Good idea. After three yeah? One, two...
Me: (pushes needle in) Yay! I did it!
Boyfriend: Excellent work sweetheart! But also, you can’t count.
Count shmount - we nailed it, bring on day two!
Hope you’re all doing well! Sending lots of lovely positivity to you all 😊💕 xxx
