For those who have done a FET

So what do you guys think about restricting your diet before a FET, like no snacks etc, do you feel like it made things any better? I'm stressing about the small things and worrying that because I haven't in the past few weeks it might have an effect??? What did everyone do? Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I truly believe that it no longer makes any difference at all, my first cycle I was so strict with myself and probably deprived myself of things that would of made the journey a little easier. My 4th cycle last year I was more laid back and ate things in moderation both cycles resulted in the same outcome x

Yes! I feel like I'm stressing enough about it nevermind controlling what I eat to the point I'm going mad 😒😒😒 i think I'll try to just chill out xxxxxxxxxx

Hello Liana, stressing and worrying is all part of it unfortunately! personally, I just felt I needed to do all I could to help myself so cut out the caffeine and alcohol and limited my sugar. Ate plenty of beets, spinach, nuts and seeds and drank lots of water, Pom and beetroot juice. Have read other people's methods though and they've just carried on as normal and still got their BFP's! I think as long as you're sensible and cut out the caffeine and alcohol then you should be fine, if it's meant to be it'll be, all the very best and good luck on your journey X

Thank you for the reply xxxxxx that's how I'm feeling at the moment, i just see people's stories of how they went vegan, gluten free etc beforehand and I'm just thinking should I have done this 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Changing your diet in a short space of time may be more detrimental. I'm vegetarian, have been for years, but worry that I'm not getting enough protein in my diet hence all the spinach and daily eggs!! Xxx

I'd say don't stress about it (easier said than done) once I had my FET I drank a lot of water and just ate healthy with lots of protein but also didn't restrict myself if I wanted a treat x

I was super strict (by my standards) on my first transfer (fresh) and not only did I get a bfn I was also really miserable. On fets I was way more relaxed and had two bfps and one bfn. Other than not drinking alcohol after transfer, cutting down caffeine and chocolate I really don’t think it makes any difference. And you’ll just be miserable xx

Thank you for replying! Totally agree with you, it makes the journey harder xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I cut out caffeine but I only drank one cup of shop coffee a day. I think you can get too caught up in it and I don’t think it is healthy to say that a particular food is “good” or “bad”. I did switch to organic free range eggs but more for ethical reasons. I drank a bit of pomegranate juice after transfer (but diluted with sparkling water) and the odd Brazil nut. There are always stories of people who say that a big change in diet helped them conceive- there has been some anecdotes about reducing refined carbohydrates but that is just sensible advice for all. I do eat at least 5 portions of different fruit and veg a day.

During my failed fresh cycle I was following a weight watchers regimen and it was negative and for my frozen transfer , I was more intuitive and it was positive but I don’t think it was my diet that contributed.

Most important is that it does not become a source of stress for you xxx

I didn’t do that. I took pregnacare max, didn’t drink caffeine or alcohol but that’s all. I did drink pomegranate juice for my lining but only to feel I was doing something. I still ate chocolate every day. My FET was successful.

I wasn't following any strict diet as such for FET only maintained the restriction on smoking and caffeine. I'm not into alcohol much except like a couple of times in a year over occasions... and there weren't any when I was preparing for my FET ever... so that never bothered me. Oh, I did add some jogging to my daily routine and a cup of green tea before bed... detoxing is good for the body and with all that medications it's even important. However, I didn't happen to have a baby yet so not sure if my advice really counts.

Thank you any advice is welcome 😘😘 we're all at different stages of the same journey xxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Katty, did you realise green tea still contains caffeine? Just thought I would mention it in case you didn’t realise xx

Yeah, I know, but the amount is very less compared to an average cup of tea or coffee. I maintained restriction but wasn't able to completely abstain from it, I think you got confused a bit.... sorry for not being more specific. It's good that you mentioned I didn't realise the original poster might follow it and without considering it has caffeine because I didn't mention it, thanks Lizzie. People dependent of caffeine or nicotine really have a hard time to stay away from it n still be totally productive at work. TBH I did sneak in a puff or two very very rare though when things got unbearably clumsy. I jumped in to like the comment where the lady mentioned she had one coffee a day even before replying to the post, feeling oh here's someone like me.... who perhaps can comprehend my troubles with total abstaining... lol! But definitely, I'll always tell anyone who looks for advice to totally abstain from smoking during TTC or ART even without adding "if you can". However, I don't blame my failure to conceive after all these years on the Ciggerette or Caffeine really, because there's no other health issues and even the infertility is unexplained.

Rooibos tea is a good detoxer and no caffeine :) if you want to switch from green tea like lizzie mentions. Xxx

in reply to

Yeah ill have a look for that tea, thanks! I always get the decaf versions anyways xxxxxxx

My fertility doctor and nurses have always said don’t deprive yourself! Their main things were only have one cup of coffee a day (thank god!), some sweat treats if that’s your thing, and just generally eat well, and add vitamin D and folic acid. I’ve done the whole giving up everything etc. and it’s not made a jot of difference 🤦🏼‍♀️ so try not to make a stressful time any worse by depriving yourself xx
