Hair dye and IVF meds

Hi Ladies

I am on day 4 of buserelin and having a mild anxiety attack as I’d forgotten about my hair appt next week. Getting my roots done (greys are sprouting!) - will it impact the ivf meds? I can’t seem to find much on google, can anyone help?

I’m not certain but I dyed my hair throughout pregnancy - and before I knew I was pregnant although this was a natural pregnancy. I wouldn’t have thought any of the chemicals would interfere with a cycle. If you are concerned maybe leave it.

My baby was fine - just to add and my mother in law is a hairdresser and coloured her hair throughout all her pregnancies. One family member stopped bleaching her hair though - it was on the scalp and burned like crazy. I agree with what lizzielizzielizzie said - when your pregnant you can react differently to all sorts. Xx

I didn't dye my hair until second trimester and even then it was a chemical free (henna) dye. I was particularly careful when taking the ivf meds, not sure why as I think it's OK but I didn't want to chance it xx

Can’t imagine that there is any problem with your IVF meds- I carried on with my hair appointments throughout treatment. Once I was pregnant I waited until after 12 weeks and had a chat with my colourist. When pregnant, highlights are considered lowest risk as the dye doesn’t sit on your scalp. Personal choice though - I needed to keep to some of my normal routine to feel happy in myself. X

I was told a def no no to hair dye during my IVF and then also in first trimester.

But up to you - everyone you ask will have a different opinion.

I am glad I didn't - wanted to be free of toxins. My hair is a mess - I got some root powder for emergencies.

Now that is interesting as I was told I could dye my hair! 🤔 I've actually not managed an appointment yet though, so I've an interesting look going lol! 😂 xx

It is personal preference - but even my local salons said no hair dye in the first trimester of pregnancy.

It is just the toxins....I can't risk it.

But do what you feel is right for yourself.

I was so worried that I stopped dying my hair during the IVF and the first trimester. Now I’m on the second trimester I am doing it but leaving longer gaps.

No one told me if I could or not, but it gave me peace of mind.

I had my hair dyed up until I got to the 2ww, then I waited until 12 weeks pregnant to get it done again. I’m 20 weeks pregnant now and baby seems fine.

(I literally had it dyed the day before embryo transfer... my hairdresser, who is also pregnant, said the main worry in first trimester is that you will have a reaction that you don’t normally have, rather than it harming the baby).

I used a slightly less toxic dye from Holland and Barrett in the run up to treatment then stopped after embryo transfer. My grey is starting to get bad but I use a powder root cover 'hair make up' to cover the grey and treated myself to a cut and blow dry that I wouldn't normally have to make it as nice as it can be for now. I was also going to ask on here about hair dye. I may use the Holland and Barrett one after 12 weeks if my baby is still with me and I can't cover the roots with the powder but I will try to hold out if I can.

Why don't you consider dying your hair after egg retrieval and before embryo transfer

Hey Barbara,

I just used this natural dye itspure.co.uk got it on amazon in case you were looking for something. You would have to check you are personally happy with the ingredients....but I was desperate.

Not sure if you have much grey - it darkens but doesn't cover completely....

Maybe you might be best to still wait until after treatment....

Hey, thanks for this will take a look. Defo in need of something - grey roots are taking over. I forgot to tell you, went to my hair appointment and cancelled my roots but then went a bit mad and asked for a long bob ( except she went to town, so quite the short bob!).

I was looking at getting some henna from lush - but might wait it out until treatment is over in a few weeks! Will defo take a look - Thanks for thinking of me!

Ah it is nice to have a change - I got a cut too as I was getting so frustrated with grey roots!

I am good! Just resting before anothed interview and trying to hide a bump! 😂💕💕💕

All good thanks, looking forward to scan Friday so hopefully I can crack on to the next bit and have a break from the injections!
