disgusting grey roots are doing nothing for my current state of mind. wondered if any of you ladies have coloured your hair during treatment / pregnancy?

i'd only be using a semi-perm. NHS website says it's okay, but i am second guessing everything at the mo... 🙃

I remember Diane the nurse writing on another post about some hair colours that are safe to use from Holland and Barrett x

Hi everyone! I hadn't even thought of this! I have an appt for my hair dying tomorrow, 6 days into my 2ww. I've just rung the fertility unit to ask if it's OK to use hair dye during the 2ww and the nurse said that they don't advise the use of any kind of dye at all until we know where we are with the pregnancy because of the smell (they advise avoiding all strong smells).

L'Oreal do a cover-up spray called Magic Retouch which comes in a range of colours from blonde to black. I guess I'll be sticking with that for the time being (^-^).

Hi Hun I don't think so dyeing your hair will do any harm but I got the same with my hair ...lots of grey in short time which is driving me crazy ....☺but I didn't dye them on my 2ww ....I wait . When I had my BFP I wait after 12 weeks to colour them ...just want to be on safe side ....plus hair colour no ammonia didn't work ...only permanent colour which the odour is always more strong. Hun is your decision what u want to do . I wish u BFP 👍🍀🍀xx

That's what I thought. Or maybe I'll just wear a hat everywhere for the next week or so (^-^)

I normally get my roots done every 6 weeks but I've booked my next one in for the week before FET which will only be 4 weeks since the last time I had them done... wanted to avoid doing anything during 2ww and (fingers crossed) early pregnancy. I have used the L'Oréal sprays think they are great! Xxx

I died my grey roots in 2ww as I couldn't bear it. I got just BFP so take it from me it's fine. Just don't leave on for longer than instructed and buy a decent brand.

Go colouring!😁xx

On my first cycle I didn't dye my hair at all and I don't know if it was the stress or the medications but my hair was really dry and fell out during/after ivf so I was forced to cut my long hair into a bob afterwards. I even went for indian head massage to try and improve it.

After this I'd read that chemicals should be avoided so switched to chemical free shampoo and stopped using hair products, nail varnish etc from Oct to Feb.

Had to muster up courage to go to a salon after my hair went so bad and I felt vulnerable after the miscarriage anyway but glad I did go in the end.

I had my hair coloured twice between cycles and had blondes put through it so close to my natural colour that roots coming through during cycle won't matter so much.

It's crazy how much of life is affected by ivf isn't it? Even skin and hair and by god we need to feel at least half decent throughout this process as the psychological benefits are enormous so it's hard to know what to do for the best isn't it! You do what feels right to you my lovely. Xx 😊

Hey. I was reading up about this myself too as lots of greys showing and I'm on my 2WW. Henna is a natural plant extract, no chemicals, so that could be an option , although a bit messy, but conditions the hair and leaves a shine and I think you can get it in all colours .

Was saying to my partner, I wonder if I should get a wig 🙈🙈🙈

I personally wouldn't advise it xx

I considered this even after my 2ww and just decided not to run the risk. So what if I had a few grey hairs showing. If in doubt don't do it.

Hi -noodles- I have had a word with my own hairdresser, and she reckons that most of the professional hair colours could be harmful if left on for a while. However, she said that if you were just having something like highlights done using foil, then the roots tend not to absorb much if any of the colour, and the rest of the hair is dead anyway!!

Unfortunately, people like “The Body Shop” have stopped producing their henna products because the new EU regulations stated that they had to test the dye on animals before continuing to sell it. Obviously for them that was a complete “no no”. However, “Holland & Barrett” do carry a range of safe hair colourants to use during pregnancy. They are a nationwide outfit, so I am sure you would be able to visit one fairly locally.

I also spoke with the “Cosmetic and Perfumery Association (CTPA) and they assure me that hair colourants are one of the most studied consumer products on the market, and are safe for all women, pregnant or not. But if you are still concerned, why don’t you buy a chemical free semi-permanent dye such as “Clairol Nice’n’Easy”, which lasts from 6 to 8 washes. It might only tone down your roots rather than cover it completely, but better than nothing. Good luck! Diane
