Hello Ladies, I am a new member. I just joined recently. The reason is very much similar to all of the ladies here. I am unable to conceive. I have been a chubby child since my childhood. Many relatives asked me to lose weight as it will create issues. I was never concerned about it. I believed in living my life. When I decided to lose weight. I found something weird. I was a PCOS patient. Things become so difficult at that point. I was already 4 years married. We decided to plan a baby. Suddenly we get this shock of our lives. Anyways, so I am looking for suggestions now. Is IVF suitable for PCOS? As many people have suggested it.

Hi new here
Hi Donna and welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately I can’t answer your question regarding pcos but I was in a similar situation regarding weight but I know ivf treatment requires a bmi under 30 for nhs funding or under 32 (I think) for private funding. So as much as I also feel weight should not dictate your life you may have to lose some weight before they will consider you for ivf.
Best of luck on your journey x
Hi there. Thank you so much for replying. I was so scared. I thought no one would bother replying. I hope you are doing good too. Well, this is something I never knew. You mean weight matters. Though there is some difference between Nhs and private finding. I am still confused. Why do they care about the weight? I will be grateful if you can explain this. Sorry I am blank in these things. Also, tell me something about yourself. I would love to make friends. Love Ya.
I have PCOS one of the symptoms of PCOS is being over weight. Although i am not over weight. For my PCOS I am taking a tablet called metformin 3 times a day.
Do you have regular periods with your PCOS? If you don’t have at least 4 periods a year, you will need something to make you have period-type bleed. IVF is definitely an option for you but there may also be other non-invasive options for you depending on your age. Have you had all your blood tests and a semen analysis done?
Regarding weight-NICE has suggested that assisted conception eg like IVF, is more successful when the BMI is within a healthy range. There are also theories that the excess fat tissue can have an effect on your sex hormones.
There has been research that losing weight in PCOS can help regulate periods and the condition also involves a resistance to insulin so having a healthy waist size is helpful to this.
Like someone else has said, metformin can be used to help with PCOS.
With IVF they like ur BMI to be perfect so will maybe ask u still to loose weight. I had to loose 3 stone b4 my IVF. It was hars going but i did it. Please feel free to look at my post about how i lost my weight
Ivf is one of the routes for PCOS. I take Clomid at the moment to make me ovulate and I also have to take provera to bring on my periods. Have you spoken to your gp about it and have you been referred to a clinic? They will be able to tell you the best steps for you. If you want to know more about ivf then look up your local nhs guidelines for it as every area is different and has different criteria. X
