Getting enough calories during pregnancy

According to my scans my baby is growing just fine & measuring spot on. I'm 16 weeks & am yet to gain any weight ( don't know if that's normal or not at this stage ) but I'm wondering if your a healthy eater how do you manage to get the recommend daily calorie intake? I eat lots of fruit & vegetables, wholegrains, pulses, plenty of protein & some full fat dairy but no chocolate, junk food, crisps etc. I know I'm getting enough nutrients but not the recommend calories ( my intake is probably around 1800 a day ), is this a problem? I'm just not a big eater! X

If you are eating the same number of calories that you did prior to getting pregnant you should be fine, you will need to find another healthy 200 per day in the 3rd trimester though 😊 as long as you aren’t loosing weight I wouldn’t worry. I’ve only put weight on in the last couple of weeks and I’m 21 weeks, like you baby is measuring fine and looking great. They’ll take what they need before you get it anyway, think of all those women who can’t keep anything down and have a healthy baby. Wishing you all the best for the rest of your pregnancy x

Sound a healthy diet to me I wouldn’t worry I think you only have to eat an extra banana worth of calories for baby.

Pregnancy is not a change in the life. It is not merely the first step in starting the entire story. A pregnant woman is bringing a new life into the world. A healthy life comes into the world when the mother is healthy too. Hence it is also essential to stay fit in the pregnancy. It is tough to come to terms with the changing physical conditions in the beginning. Despite the weary days it is vital to stay healthy. The best way is to add some healthy amount of calories to your diet. A healthy pregnant woman needs 300 additional calories. This does not mean that you start taking every food blindly. Healthily getting the calories is imperative. Extra intake of proteins, vegetable, and fruits is highly advisable. Whole grains can be helpful as well. Don't consume too much of sweets and fats. It is an unhealthy calorie source. Healthy dietary habits with enough intake of the calories can also help you fight back the pregnancy symptoms like persistent nausea and morning sickness.

Hi Alexis I was told that baby will take all the nutrients first, so if you feel OK then your baby will also be OK. My diet is full of fruit, veg but also been eating chocolate! I am having twins and really have felt ravenous at times. I'm always surprised that despite how much water I drink that I'm still often very thirsty, particularly when I wake up. I was worried in the hot weather about this but apparently babies will be fine, but I might get dehydrated - I hope not!! Remember that 300 calories is only like one piece of toast and a banana so you won't have to eat much more in 3rd trimester. Wish I could be as disciplined as you 😁Hope you're feeling well xxx
