GP said results “normal” ... that tells us nothing I said. Requested report. We shall take this with us to IVF referral but would love to know what any of this means? Errmm the word abnormal with 95% next to it isn’t exactly giving me “normal” vibes?!

If the gp says normal, I wouldn't second guess it. Once you begin the ivf journey,he will have other sperm tests anyway, I certainly did. You could look into dna testing, etc for his sperm, but as I said it, if your getting normal results, doesn't seem much point.
Point is the egg is SO much more important, my sperm is low count, low everything, but it still worked first time with donor egg. We had several cycles with my wifes eggs, but started when she was already 38,none stuck past 2 weeks. We even tried donor sperm as I was the one with issues, we got nothing but negative results.
This happened to us when my husband’s results were unfortunately anything but normal and the GP had actually ticked the wrong box!! Hopefully this is not the case for you and the results are normal. Once we had our referral and met with a specialist in fertility, we had some more detail. Unfortunately GPs are not specialists in this area. If the results are not normal, there is plenty that can be done to improve things with vitamins and ICSI can also be used. We also ended up seeing Dr Ramsay, a urologist that specialises in male fertility. It worked for us and we had success on our second cycle. Good luck!
I’m not young I’m 37 next month and my husband is 45. I have severe endo stage 4. Have never miscarried. After my excision my surgeon recommended we go for ivf. If I waited any longer I’d be too old to be accepted. We have our ivf consultation next month but have continued to try naturally in the meantime.
I think it is a good move for IVF - I was the same age when we started and so grateful we went ahead. Same concerns about leaving it any later and not getting funding - also potential to have embryos in freezer is very reassuring rather than plodding away trying naturally with no results.
They can sometimes diagnose or notice certain things with IVF that are difficult to find out otherwise - sperm and egg compatibility etc
