Hi Paigel I have PCOS too & have been TTC for over 4 Years, so I feel your pain! We are due to start our 1st round of ICSI in Sept this year. My doctor said the most effective treatment they say for PCOS is to lose a bit of weight & to exercise (not sure if that applies to u - but does to me!) he said even losing as little as 5-10% can make a difference to your cycle, which in turn of course can assist your fertility. Best of luck, sending lots of baby dust your way✨ I have never been one for forums, but this one is great, everyone is so welcoming & there’s always someone that can relate to how you are feeling xxx

Hey :) aww thank you, yes It does apply to me 🙈 but waiting on dietician now, I did lose weight after taking metformin and my periods have become regular now but had to stop due to side effects. Went back recently and have now been put on folic acid but I’m not too sure what comes next :( this is my first time on a forum was hoping to chat to people that had been through the same thing. Aww good luck fingers crossed for you ✌🏻xx

I was diagnosed with Pcos in my early 20s and then had it reconfirmed in late 20s. We started ttc when I was early 30s and as I had a 'known condition', I was referred to an NHS clinic for fertility investigations after 8 months of trying. My GP did initially say to me though that Pcos was often misdiagnosed a few years back and that we should keep trying but I got a second opinion and that doctor gave me the referral. The hospital investigations took quite some time as we couldn't get my day 21 blood tests right due to late ovulation and one month I looked like I had pcos on the scans and the next I didn't! In the end they couldn't make a decision but it turned out that we had male factor too so I'm glad I pushed for referral as we wouldn't have been able to conceive naturally at that time from the male factor either.

We did need IVF in the end and what I did to help prepare was lose weight (only 7lbs but it made a difference), found ways to manage stress/feelings of anxiety (simple things like doing puzzles helped to keep my mind occupied) and took high strength vitamin b in liquid form which seemed to help my periods start roughly at the same time each month (whereas before they would start anywhere between day 22 to day 32), reduced my period from 10 days to around 6 days and gave me the energy I needed to exercise although I appreciate this might not work for everyone but your dietician might be able to advise on the right vitamins for you xx

Hi ladies. I also have PCOS and am a nutritionist. Pcos is caused by or exacerbated by insulin resistance (they don't know the exact cause). It causes you store fat. The only part of you body which doesn't become resistant to the affects of insulin is your reproductive organs and thats why hormones and menstral cycles get mucked up. Exercise is important to increase insulin sensitivity, and healthy eating, particularly a low GI diet with lots of veges is really important to reduce insulin spikes. Blood sugar spike = insulin spike. I like to think that rather than a disorder, its a super power in the wrong environment. If we were still cave woman we'd be the strongest and fittest in times of famine :-) Unfortunately it doesn't help us much in the 21st century :-/
